Arnel Pineda came to prominence in the local music scene in the 1980s through the bands he has become a part of — Amo and The New Age. Through the groups, he was able to perform in various gigs in the Philippines and in other Asian countries before taking a break from singing after suffering health problems that almost destroyed his voice.

In 2006, he formed another band called The Zoo and went on to release an album, which spawned the stirring OPM smash, “Pain in My Heart.” The band became viral on YouTube after their covers of hits by Journey, Aerosmith and Survivor started to make the rounds online. It was through these videos that Pineda was discovered and was invited to audition for Journey’s search for their new vocalist. In 2007, he was announced as the frontman of the respected rock band.
