April 7 will be a night of many first’s for King of OPM Themesongs, Erik Santos.
The sophomore show of the “Powerhouse” series will not only present the esteemed balladeer singing in his first all-OPM repertoire; the event will also showcase him in his inaugural role as a concert director and a scriptwriter.
The “Powerhouse” concert, which previously featured Journey frontman Arnel Pineda, will take place at The Theatre in Solaire at 8PM.
“Dream ko talaga to direct my own show. I’m glad I’m given this chance,” Erik shared during a press conference.
In a WISHclusive Roadshow interview earlier in March, he further recounted that his previous concert experiences have helped him realize this goal.
“Siguro, being in the industry for quite some time now, marami na akong nasaksihang shows. Mahilig rin kasi ako talagang manood ng concerts. Kapag nanonood ako ng concerts, I also critique — sa sarili ko lang naman iyon, sinasabi ko na, ‘Siguro dapat ganito ang ilaw, dapat ganito yung concept. Siguro dapat kinanta niya ‘to.’ Maraming naglalaro sa utak ko. So, doon nabuo yung pangarap ko to direct someday.”
He has also picked up some lessons during his stint in the celebrity edition of the now defunct program, “We Love OPM.”
“I was one of the mentors of the show. At kapag mentor ka, lahat ng konsepto, ideas, song, the arrangement — everything, every aspect of the performance of my group, ako talaga ang bumubuo.”
His hardwork paid off as his group, “Tres Kantos,” emerged as the champion.
Erik’s co-mentor, the country’s Pop Rock Superstar Yeng Constantino, who was with him during the Roadshow interview, also lauded the balladeer’s efforts.
“Napansin ko talaga kay Erik na parang direktor siya mag-isip, like the smallest details, talagang nakikita niya. And well thought of lahat ng mga production number nila, kaya naman sila yung naging grand champion,” she said adding that it is high time for Erik to discover this side of him.”
Yeng, together with hitmaker Ogie Alcasid will be the show’s special guests. The event, dubbed as “Erik Santos Sings the Greatest OPM Classics,” will also feature Marcelito Pomoy and Tawag ng Tanghalan grand finalists Eumee Capile and Gidget Dela Llana.
As for the concert’s setlist, Erik teased that music lovers will delight in the diversity of his songs.
“I’ll be paying tribute to OPM icons like Basil Valdez, Rey Valera, George Canseco ad Ryan Cayabyab. I’ll also be singing some Aegis, Rico Puno, some Manila Sound…basta, marami. Sa dami ng magagandang OPM song, talagang inilagay namin sa isang buong show. So expect a lot of medleys, different arrangements.”
The much-anticipated OPM revelry is presented by fast-rising local promoter Lucky 7 Koi Productions, Inc., and is line produced by Cornerstone Concerts.
