Gary V. on Filipino artists, his upcoming project and his WISHperience

Jan 13, 2017

Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano pumped up the Roadshow last January 10, Tuesday, as he performed his greatest hits onboard the Wish 107.5 Bus.

Highlighting his timeless voice, the OPM icon performed “Shout for Joy,” “Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos,” “Spain,” and his remakes of “I’ll Never Love This Way Again” and “Wag Ka Nang Umiyak.”

The well-rounded artist, who has been in the industry for over three decades now, is having a show entitled “Gary V: Love in Motion” on February 14 and 15 at Shangri-La Fort.

During his guesting, he also shared his thoughts on fellow Filipino artists and on his upcoming project.

On Filipino artists:

Let’s take it from Ellen Degeneres. She once said that there are two things in the world that are true. The first one I actually forgot, but the second is the one that I remembered — ‘The best singers are those that are Filipinos.’ And I’m not looking at myself, I’m looking at tons of others that don’t have to carry a microphone and can still sound good.

On his upcoming project:

There is another album and it’s called “Awit at Laro,” and this is going to be one that we’re putting together to kind of bridge the gap between those like me and the young ones. Basically we’re trying to encourage children to go out and play. And we’re getting people like Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo and yours truly, and other artists to sing songs about either games that they used to play or brand new songs about playing.

On his wish for his music:

For me [music is] one of the most impactful media that we have. Pero, it’s also one of the most unpredictable things. You might have a song that you think is going to work and then it doesn’t. Maybe my wish would be to continue to incorporate the music that I have with the other ideas that I have in my mind. I have so many ideas in my head that I hope you people could experience — and what I mean is, you are not just going to watch it, you’re going to experience it.

On his WISHperience:

Well, you guys have been blessing me with an opportunity to really get close to people. Instead of them going to a concert, it’s like ‘I’m going to go where they are.’ This whole ride is generating some sort of chill, I’m just enjoying.

On Wish 107.5 Bus and its way of showcasing an artist’s creativity:

It’s a great concept and it’s a great way of showing everyone what we really have. There would be times when you’d see an artist here who could totally blow you away — not because ngayon niyo lang nalaman na magaling, pero it’s more like ‘Wow! You didn’t know that this artist could do this or that.’ And I think that this is a great, literally a great vehicle to do that.

For a bonus, he even revealed a trivia about him — he once wished to be a DJ!

A little trivia when I was younger, when I had all of these [radio tours], I would fall in love…you know being able to press all these buttons and faders. I would actually create my own radio program at home, imagining if I could do something like that.
