Losing a loved one is heartbreaking

Losing a loved one is heartbreaking.

Doctor Clark, I lost a very special friend when I was in elementary. Her name was Esperanza. I first met her during my cousin’s 8th birthday, when her family came to our town to stay for good.

I instantly liked her. She shared her toys and merienda with me. She encouraged me to learn how to ride a bike. It was through her that I learned the first Spanish word I have known – her name. She said Esperanza is the Spanish word for hope.

Never did I imagine that three years later, she would be taken away from me, from us – without warning. While their family was travelling out of town , they met an accident, and everyone survived…except for her.

I cried a river, Doctor Clark…I lost hope, we lost Esperanza. But time healed our hearts, and with the help of the Almighty, we realized that certainly, there is a reason why her journey here ended early.

Thinking of her, leaves a sweet smile on my face. Perhaps, God sent her to me so that I could appreciate my existence more. And now, for as long as I live, hope will remain in my heart.
