10 Shows to Satisfy the Concert Junkie in You This 2018

There’s a certain kind of intoxicating feeling that only a live concert can give.

You anticipate for it for months, or even years for some. You invest time, energy, and money. But once your favorite artist appears on stage to share a memorable moment with you, all will be worth it. You know such rarity is priceless.

We, a nation of music-loving people, are blessed to welcome heaps of these unforgettable occasions year after year.

We’ve just approached the second quarter of 2018, but we were already gifted with spectacular concerts staged by international and local music superstars – from Grammy award-winning crooner John Legend to rock titans Incubus to OPM heavyweights Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Ogie Alcasid, Erik Santos, and Morissette.

The rest of the year looks even more promising.

In the first two weeks of April alone, hot and sought-after acts have dominated the country with talked-about shows, like that of Katy Perry’s, Ed Sheeran’s and LANY’s. Just last Saturday, Pop Star Royalty Sarah Geronimo and Irish rock band The Script -- who performed at two different venues in one night --  proved Pinoy music lovers just can’t get enough.

In case your musical cravings aren’t satiated yet, here’s a round up of 10 more shows to satisfy the concert junkie in you!

Paramore Live In Manila 2018

The American rock band was originally scheduled to perform earlier on February 18 at the Mall of Asia Arena. But due to lead singer Hayley Williams’ “throat and upper-respiratory infection,” the Manila as well as Jakarta legs of their world tour were both postponed to a later date.

To be housed at the same venue, the trio popular for the hits “Decode,” “The Only Exception,” and “That’s What You Get” will be back for the third time in Manila on August 23. They are currently promoting their fifth studio album titled “After Laughter.”

Summer Noise 2018

The past years proved to be an incredible time for the thriving indie music circuit. Contributing significantly to the vibrance of the scene is The Rest is Noise, the music event production behind the annually-held The Rest is Noise Year-End and Summer Noise shows.

This year’s edition of the latter boasts a hefty line-up of indie acts from Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand. If you’re looking for a show that gathers Clara Benin, Pedicab, IV of Spades, Oh Flamingo, She’s Only Sixteen, Tide/Edit, BP Valenzuela, The Ransom Collective, Tom’s Story and more – this is the concert you shouldn’t miss.

Summer Noise 2018 is happening on May 5 at the Century City Mall Event Space.

Boyce Avenue with Moira

If your cup of tea is a more mellow and hugot-laden setlist, Boyce Avenue and Moira’s collaborative concert is for you.

The three-member American boyband will be teaming up with the Filipina singer, who staged a two-night concert earlier in February coinciding with her “Malaya” album launch. They are set to share the spotlight on June 1 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Fans of the two acts who are in Southern Philippines can make up through their June 2 and 3 shows, to be held at the Waterfront Hotel Ballroom in Cebu and at the SMX Convention Center in Davao, respectively.

Iisa (3D: Johnoy Danao, Ebe Dancel, Bullet Dumas)

Individually, Ebe Dancel, Johnoy Danao and Bullet Dumas are prolific singer-songwriters; each with a résumé loaded with hits and gems, and sold-out shows and gigs.

Collectively known as 3D, the ace tunesmiths have been performing as a musical trio since 2014. Their journey reached its peak when they held a highly-successful “Dama” concert at the Music Museum in February 2016. Due to insistent demand of their loyal following, a sophomore show of the same name was held in July.

This 2018, they are set to come together once more, but this time at a larger venue – the Kia Theatre. Aptly called “Iisa,” Dancel, Danao and Dumas will dish out their exceptional musicality and palpable sonic chemistry in the much-anticipated comeback concert on June 9.

Harry Styles: Live on Tour

When British pop star Harry Styles first performed for Filipinos in 2015, he was with his fellow One Direction members Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson. Fast forward to three years, the 24-year-old sensation will be returning to Manila to hold his first-ever concert in the country as a solo artist.

He began his self-titled world tour in September 2017, showcasing his handsome baritone vocals through tracks from his Billboard No. 1 eponymous album such as “Sign of the Times,” “Two Ghosts,” and “Sweet Creature.” His Manila show is slated on May 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Niall Horan: Flicker World Tour 2018

Another One Direction member who is set to visit Manila again is Irish singer-songwriter Niall Horan.

He will be bringing his hits from his chart-topping “Flicker” album, which includes the global smash “Slow Hands” and the acoustic ballad “This Town, on June 10, also at the MOA Arena. His debut record as a solo act was released in October 2017.

Horan’s next stops in Asia are Singapore (June 12) and Tokyo, Japan (June 14 - 15).

Sam Smith: The Thrill of it All World Tour

Been wishing to relive the thrill of watching Sam Smith live? It’s wishful thinking no more as the award-winning English artist has announced that he will be back in the Philippines come October 5!

Smith’s upcoming show will be held at the MOA Arena, the same venue where he had his dashing debut Manila concert three years ago. Known for his dramatic and impressive vocal command, he will be taking center stage with songs from his 2017 effort, “The Thrill of it All.”

Bruno Mars: 24K Magic Tour

Fil-Am Bruno Mars is a true definition of a total performer. From his unbelievably glorious vocal range, irresistible dance moves down to his lavish stage productions and top-calibre band mates called “The Hooligans,” he makes sure that every concert he holds are nothing short of epic and regal.

And for his Filipino lovers, one night is not enough to contain this kind of musical prowess. The overwhelming demand to experience a Bruno Mars concert resulted to a back-to-back MOA Arena show this coming May 3 and 4.

His current world tour promotes his “24K Magic” album, which swept awards at this year’s Grammys including the coveted Album of the Year. He has previously treated Pinoys to a grand musical revelry in 2014.

Mariah Carey: Live in Concert

In 2017, 90’s pop fanatics had the time of their lives when Britney Spears invaded Manila. This 2018 is yet another great year for the genre’s aficionados as pop diva Mariah Carey is scheduled to have a special one-night only Big Dome concert on October 26.

Under her belt are five Grammys, nine American Music Awards, and a Billboard Award for “Artist of the Decade.” The New York-born singer has sold over 200 million records worldwide, according to a press release.

Celine Dion Live 2018 Tour

Before we fall into a trance at Mariah Carey’s anticipated concert, another ravishing pop phenomenon will first grace the local concert scene.

For the first time, Canadian chanteuse Celine Dion will be bringing all her greatest hits to Manila as she performs at the MOA Arena on July 19. Philippines is one of the seven countries she will visit in the Asia-Pacific region for her “Celine Dion Live 2018” tour. The itinerary will include Japan, Macau, Singapore, Indonesia, Bangkok and Taipei.

The said show is expected to be a wish come true for many Pinoys as Dion’s timeless hits are a staple in radio stations and karaoke sessions in the country. Some of her most memorable love anthems are “Power of Love,” “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now,” “Because You Loved Me,” “To Love You More,” and “My Heart Will Go On.”
