3 Ultimate Reasons to Get You Hyped Up for the 3rd Wish 107.5 Music Awards

The awarding ceremony for the 3rd Wish 107.5 Music Awards is right around the corner. Before the anticipated revelation of who will sweep recognitions, here are three ultimate reasons that will surely get you hyped up for the music revelry happening on January 15 at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum!

A celebration of Filipino music

A few years ago, there was this clamor that Filipino music is already dead. But with the continued emergence of new artists and the creation of new materials, the country’s tunesmiths have proven that the statement is anything but a mere controversy. Someone from somewhere is always producing something fresh -- even something global-ready -- for the thriving industry to welcome and for the music enthusiasts to appreciate.

With this in mind, Wish 107.5 is taking the opportunity to pay tribute to this endurance of Filipino music and talent. And no event is more fitting to highlight this endeavor than the upcoming Wish Music Awards.

Themed “Taking Filipino Music Across the Globe,” the occasion will be an evening of celebrating homegrown musical crafts. But beyond recognizing the contributions of today’s artists to the industry, the FM radio station will be putting emphasis to its commitment to be instrumental in propelling the country’s gift of music to the international stage.

Star-studded performances

In the upcoming awards night, the Big Dome is set to hold a huge constellation of OPM stars. However, the thrill doesn’t end in just witnessing the meeting of rising and established acts as notable artists will also be giving out stellar performances to celebrate Filipino musicality.

Returning to the WMA stage this year are Morissette, KZ Tandingan, Jay R, Kris Lawrence, Michael Pangilinan and Sassa. Rock giants and WMA judges Arnel Pineda and Jett Pangan, Soul Siren Nina, acclaimed rappers Gloc-9 and Abra, singing heartthrobs Inigo Pascual, TJ Monterde and Sam Mangubat, indie stars Clara Benin, Keiko Necesario, Quest, Zsaris and the station’s own rising belter Mela will also grace the evening.

The Wishful 20, the singing hopefuls of Wishcovery, will complete the A-list roster of WMA performers.

The previous WMAs are evidences of how the station comes up with dazzling and talked-about production numbers. In 2016, Morissette and Darren Espanto delivered a chill-inducing duet of “Chandelier.” Last year, KZ, Zia Quizon and Sassa teamed up to a render a glorious medley of “A Thousand Years,” “The Only Exception,” and “I Won't Give Up.”

For the third installment of the music awards, the crowd can expect a set of performances that will live up to this kind of “Wishclusive” collaborations. What’s more worth anticipating are the OPM hits that the performers will be breathing new life to.

Philanthropy at the heart of it all

“By opening up our station, we wanted to incorporate the element of helping other people. This is the reason why we named our station Wish.” This is how Kuya Daniel Razon, CEO and President of Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International, summed up the story behind the existence of Wish 107.5.

As philanthropy is of paramount importance for the station, an occasion as big as the WMA is also an equally big opportunity to reach out to the less fortunate.

Annually, the award-giving body grants Php 100,000 to the respective beneficiaries of the major category winners. This is apart from the Php 25,000 received by the winning artists. Since the 1st WMA, a total of Php 2.75 million has already been doled out.

According to Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors President Isah Red, this charitable aspect of the WMA is what sets itself apart from other award-giving bodies. “[Wish] has instilled in the minds and hearts of the winners the values of charity and musical excellence,” he shared in an interview.
