7 Wishclusive Duets to Watch This Love Month

Song duets — or musical pieces performed by two artists — have their own appeal.

Apart from the singers’ harmonies, these tracks offer an added depth and dimension to a musical narrative. If sung alone, “Endless Love” and “Islands in the Stream” wouldn’t be as dramatic as we know them. And who wouldn’t agree that the duet of “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang,” OPM’s ultimate right-love-at-the-wrong-time anthem, sounds more heartbreaking than its solo version?

Over the years, the Wish Bus has also seen its fair share of duets from A-list OPM acts. Some will make you catch that love bug; others will make you cry a little (or a lot). But all of them will let you bask in pure musical bliss.

In honor of love month, we’ve listed down seven Wishclusive duets for you to enjoy, put on repeat, or sing along to.

“Pelikula” — Arthur Nery and Janine Teñoso

Had “Pelikula” been released before the pandemic happened, high school sweethearts would have danced to this saccharine song during prom night.

In the hit duet, Arthur Nery and Janine Teñoso play with their musical strengths to offer a short-but-sweet number that evokes images of a young romance. Their voices are gorgeous on their own, but when combined — as they’ve effortlessly shown in this Wishclusive — Nery’s velvety trills serve as the perfect partner to Teñoso’s full and wide-ranging vocal prowess.

“Manila” — Peniel Roxas and Mei Teves

“Manila” is an original by Hotdog, one of the most prominent bands from the Manila Sound era of OPM. It’s an ode to the allure of the bustling city; a love song for the Philippine capital.

In this Wishclusive, Wishcovery Originals’ top winners Peniel Roxas and Mei Teves team up and give a fresh spin to the ‘70s tune. Dueting their way to your ears and your heart, this acoustic rendition showcases their storytelling and singing chops — and their unexpectedly good sonic chemistry (Discover their original solo songs here and here).

“A Whole New World” — Morissette and Darren Espanto

This Wishclusive duet takes you on a magical ride as Morissette and Darren Espanto sing the Disney classic aboard the aptly donned Wish Bus. The two acts, hand-picked by The Walt Disney Company, shine individually and serve beautiful harmonies when they sing together. Drawing positive reviews from the audience, it’s safe to say that they did a dazzling rendition of the well-adored Aladdin theme song.

“Your Universe” — Clara Benin and Jarlo Bâse

Pinoy rock luminary Rico Blanco unveiled this song in 2008 as part of his eponymous solo record debut. It’s a track that captures the joyous feeling of being in love and getting that love reciprocated. In other words — how it feels to be welcomed to and be part of your someone special’s universe.

Part of the new breed of OPM acts, Clara Benin and Jarlo Bâse (formerly known in the scene as Dane Hipolito) perform their Wishclusive take on one of the best Filipino love songs of the 2000s. Their version is simple, stripped-down, yet heart-tugging. And for OPM moments like this, we consider ourselves the lucky ones.

“Maybe” — Jensen Gomez and Reese Lansangan

With only their guitars and voices that ache with vulnerability, Jensen Gomez and Reese Lansangan deliver a heart-wrenching rendition of “Maybe.” Their collaborative single is a glimpse at an intimate conversation between two parting lovers — with each one of them taking the time to let their emotions spill in every verse. The fact that they only sing together in the last chorus makes this number even more bittersweet. Intentional or not, it can be taken as symbolism for making the most of their one last time together.

“Paano Ba Ang Magmahal” — Yeng Constantino and Erik Santos

This song centers on that one question that stingingly lingers after every break-up — just what is the right way to love?

Together with Erik Santos (who originally recorded the track with Liezel Garcia for a TV series), “Paano Ba Ang Magmahal” songwriter Yeng Constantino poses the question over and over in this Wishclusive. While there’s no resolution in sight, at least in this performance, one thing is certain: Despite knowing the hurting that comes with it, falling in love is something that you can’t resist.

“Simula” — KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde

KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde wrote this track specifically for their wedding, which took place in October 2020. Paying homage to marriage and the beautiful beginnings that the occasion signifies, this song is also part of the EP that they released to commemorate their special day.

Returning to the Wish Bus as a now-married couple, they deliver a Wish award-winning collaboration that’s just one proof that they are indeed a match made in musical heaven.
