A Song of Praise Premieres on Wish 107.5

A Song of Praise (ASOP) Music Festival, a gospel music songwriting competition produced by the Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI), has premiered on Wish 107.5 on October 18.

The launching of the four-year-old television program on Wish comes after the management of the FM station forged a deal with BMPI to promote the music genre.

ASOP airs on Wish every Sunday from 5 am to 6 am. During the one-hour slot, original compositions crafted by amateur and professional writers as entries to the competition will be played, and requests will also be entertained.

The deal was first announced by BMPI Chairman and CEO Dr. Daniel Razon at the press conference of the recently concluded ASOP Year 4 Grand Finals.

Razon also revealed the good news before the competition’s grand finals crowd, which included acclaimed icons in the Philippine music industry at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on October 13.

Ryan Cayabyab, the executive director of the Philpop Music Fest Foundation Inc., predicts the significant influence of gospel music supporters on mainstream media, “It is like a small troop of army which when it penetrates the mainstream, it will grow into a large army.”

“I can imagine this going mainstream,” ASOP Grand Finals judge and award-winning composer Jungee Marcelo shared, adding that the scope of the genre’s presence can cover “all radio stations.”

Judges of a competition

Completing the panel of judges were singer/actress Celeste Legaspi, The Dawn frontman Jett Pangan, Warner Music Philippines General Manager Lachmi Baviera, and ASOP resident judge Mon Del Rosario.

This year’s winners are:
Song of the Year: Kung Pag-ibig Mo’y Ulan (Composer: Christian Malinias; Interpreter: Leah Patricio)
1st Runner Up: Pakakamahalin Din Kita (Composer: Dennis Avenido; Interpreter: Nino Alejandro)
