Agsunta Gives Wishclusive OPM Treat via Roadshow Gig
Agsunta is a four-piece alternative rock act that touts themselves as the new voice of OPM.
Every week, the fast-rising band delights their fans with a brand new cover of an OPM song or a collab with a fellow musician. An avid follower is familiar with what is to be expected from their every performance — an exceptional showmanship of their respective talents, a hugot-inclined and often nostalgic choice of song, and of course, their already iconic wood-themed studio set-up.
But last February 21, fans were elated to see the boys invade a different “performance stage.”
Bringing their music to the famed Wish 107.5 Bus, the alt-rockers offered a WISHclusive OPM treat with their covers of Kitchie Nadal’s “Wag Na Wag Mong Sasabihin,” Silent Sanctuary’s “Kundiman,” and Hale’s “Kung Wala Ka.”
The band has been making the rounds online with these revivals polished with their signature alternative sound. According to vocalist Jireh Singson, they have been doing these covers a long time ago but it was only in August 2015 when it became regular.
“Yung first video namin para sa #AgsuntaSongRequests, ‘yung ‘Sa’yo’ by Silent Sanctuary. Hindi namin akalain na magkakaroon pala siya ng followers, ng listeners. From then on, we did it regularly, which is every week.”
Apart from #AgsuntaSongRequests, the band also popularized other “hashtags” that allow them to share equally remarkable performances — the #AgsuntaJamSessions, where they invite another artist for a collaboration, and the #AgsuntaOriginal, which is dedicated to promoting their own materials.
On board the Wish 107.5 Bus, the band gave a glimpse of their #AgsuntaOriginal setlist with “Liwanag” and “Wala Nang Lusot,” that are both part of their “Liwanag” EP. The EP is a follow-up to their debut record, “Head Over Heals,” released in January 2015. The album has three original cuts, including its title track, “Fireman,” and “Pinopoly.”
Agsunta is composed of Jireh Singson (vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboard), Mikel Arevalo (lead guitar, backing vocals), Josh Planas (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Stephen Arevalo (drums, percussion, keyboard, backing vocals).
