P-pop Group Alamat Releases Upbeat  Single, ‘Day and Night’

Three months after the release of their “PAGSULONG” Physical EP, P-pop group Alamat has released a new upbeat track titled “Day and Night” to the delight of their fans. Released under Viva Records on June 14, 2023, the track is the band’s first non-album single this year.

“Day and Night,” which features multilingual lyrics that talk about wanting to be with someone special all the time, has a music video that is inspired by Bicolano mythology.

According to singer-songwriter and “Day and Night” composer Thyro Alfaro, the song is taken from the point of view of a fisherman who has fallen in love with the enchanting voice of a magindara — a mythological mermaid-like creature.

Filipina actress Jane De Leon played the role of a magindara in the “Day and Night” official music video, which, as of writing, has over 232,000 views.

The track’s catchy lyrics, energetic melody, and dynamic choreography has propelled it to make the rounds on TikTok as a dance challenge, capturing the attention of not only the Magiliws, but a wider online audience in the Philippines and beyond.

Alamat, composed of Taneo, Mo, Tomás, R-ji, Alas, and Jao, debuted in the OPM scene in 2021 with their single “kbye.” The group is known for showcasing Filipino pride in their lyrics and highlighting each group member’s Filipino language: Bicolano, Waray-Waray, Hiligaynon, Ilocano, Kapampangan, and Tagalog.

“Sa’min naman po, Alamat, syempre, ‘di na po mawawala talaga ‘yung multilingualism namin, and ‘yung culture namin, ‘yung roots namin kung saan talaga kami nanggaling,” Alamat member Mo said in an interview.

In 2021, Alamat made it to the second spot of Billboard’s Next Big Sound chart, joining the ranks of other notable Filipino artists Morisette, SB19, BGYO, and The Juans.
