A First: Alex Band, The Calling Perform in Manila

The Calling and frontman Alex Band staged the biggest rock concert of the year at the Mall of Asia Arena on November 11 as they invaded Manila for the first time with their timeless alternative rock sound.

The group, whose career peaked in the 2000s, captured anew the hearts of their Filipino fans as they sang their most iconic hits such as “Adrienne,” “Stigmatized,” “Tonight,” “Only One (Vampire Diaries OST),” “Our Lives (closing song of the 2004 Olympics)” and many more.

The evening of course was not complete without the band performing their mega-hit, “Wherever You Will Go.” The track was hailed by Billboard Magazine as “Song of the Decade” (00) and “No. 3 Greatest Adult Pop Song of All Time.” It is also considered a staple in many Filipino karaoke sessions for its time-transcending alternative rock appeal.

According to Band, who was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson’s in 2012, last Friday’s show was a wish granted for him as he has been waiting to be in the Philippines for quite some time already. He even added that he would love to return and play before his fans here in the country in the future, “It’s all worth the plane flight, I would love to come here again.”

Wish 107.5 is one of the event’s media partners. The concert was presented by Subterranean Ideas Entertainment.
