American Record Producer Rhett Lawrence on Morissette: 'She's Definitely a Future Legend'
When Morissette staged a sold-out concert titled “Morissette is Made” on February 20, Tuesday, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, American record producer and songwriter Rhett Lawrence was one of the thousands who came to watch and applauded her.
Rhett is best known for producing Mariah Carey’s Grammy award-winning hit, “Vision of Love.” He has also worked with other top musical acts such as Selena, The Spice Girls, and Whitney Houston.
Commending the Asia’s Phoenix first major solo show, he shared in a recent Wish Bus interview, “Everything about it was awesome. It was really something, and it had so many great moments.”
On Morissette’s vocal ability
In the same interview, Rhett revealed what makes Morissette stand out.
“She has a beautiful tone and an amazing range. She can sing authentically, and she’s the real deal,” he said, adding praises to the vocal tricks she has mastered, including doing whistles and squeaks.
“Thankfully, I was able to be around at the start of Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson and The Black Eyed Peas’ careers. I knew they will be big even in the beginning. I feel even stronger about Morissette -- she can be bigger, and she’s definitely a future legend,” he further claimed.
Teasing about what’s in store for the fans of the 21-year-old power belter, the world-renowned music figure said that they “have some really good surprises.”
“David Cosico [Morissette’s manager] is organizing new shows right now. I’m focusing a lot on the material and on guest musicians. I wanted to help her dreams come true, and I’m sure they all will.”
On how Wish 107.5 introduced her to Morissette
According to Rhett, Wish 107.5 had actually played a crucial role in getting him interested in the works of Morissette.
“I saw the video of her duet with Arnel Pineda. I knew Arnel was great, but ‘who is this great girl?’ So I kept searching and searching, and after I studied her videos, I said ‘I have to meet this person’,” he narrated, referring to Arnel and Morissette’s Wishclusive performance of “I Finally Found Someone.”
Earlier in September 2017, the producer invited Morissette to visit the Hollywood-based Capitol Studios to let her see how artists there record new tracks.
Meanwhile, Rhett also thanked the FM radio station for coming up with a state-of-the-art platform that introduces artists to a wider audience.
“I can hear her voice so clearly, and it was so impressive,” the industry veteran said after lauding the audio quality produced inside the Wish Bus.
“I love this bus! What you guys are doing is cool! Thank you for doing such a wonderful thing,” he exclaimed.
Upon knowing that the fully-equipped bus will have a counterpart in Hollywood in Los Angeles, he shared that “it’s pretty exciting” and offered help, “Anything you need, I’m there.”
