Armi Millare, South Border, and More in Spotlight at ‘Invisible’ Concert

Before 2023 closes out, KDR Music House mounted one last installment of the “Wish Date” concert series to cap off an eventful year. Titled “Invisible,” the show was held on Tuesday, December 26, at the Araneta Coliseum.

OPM acts Armi Millare, South Border, and Gigi De Lana and The Gigi Vibes headlined the event. Esay Belanio, the Idol Philippines alum who recently won “Indie Artist of the Year” at the 8th PPOP Awards, also showcased her musical prowess at the event. KDR Music House’s Peniel completed the roster of performers.

Eye-opening film

As with the series’s previous editions, “Invisible” featured a short film elevated by some live-acting performances. The story follows Helen (played by Ayra Mariano) and Alfred (EA Guzman) and how the two found love after a journey filled with twists and turns.

Helen is a radio DJ with a big heart for charity. She goes through a tough breakup with someone she thought cared about helping others as she does. Meanwhile, Alfred, a friend of her former flame, has been quietly in love with her all along. When Helen loses her sight in an accident, Alfred secretly helps her by being her donor. After discovering Alfred’s sacrifice, she finally sees how much he cares for her. Their story culminates in them finding true love in each other.

Heart-rending performances from the show’s musical guests added emotional depth to the story.

Millare, the former vocalist of the esteemed Filipino band UDD, gave some of the most poignant performances of the night. For her stint, she performed the crowd favorites, “Tadhana,” “Sana,” and “Unti-Unti.” She also brought her solo originals, the hope-inducing “Kapit” and the recently released “Roots.”

“This is a concept show. And I haven’t ever done that with other concerts. Usually, you just go up on stage, then you come down, and that’s it. This one has a lot of work behind it, and personally, I feel [it’s] such a cool thing to do,” Millare remarked in an interview with UNTV News and Rescue.

Another industry fixture, South Border, took the crowd on a sentimental trip down memory lane with all their well-loved classics. They performed “Love of My Life,” “Kahit Kailan,” “Ikaw Nga,” “Wherever You Are,” and “Rainbow.”

In an interview, Jay Durias, the vocalist of South Border, shared: “First of all we are so grateful na nakasama kami dito and lalo na sa crowd… ang saya ng crowd, ramdam na ramdam mo ‘yung love. Alam na alam nila ‘yung kanta namin — kinakanta nila. So, talagang nakakataba ng puso.”

Meanwhile, Gigi De Lana and The Gigi Vibes brought the house down with their emotionally charged spins to “Remember Me,” “Hopelessly Devoted To You,” and “I Won’t Last A Day Without You.” The band — a certified hit on social media with their sensational renditions of hit songs — also performed their version of “Where Do Broken Hearts Go,” which has previously gone viral online. Their set ended on a high note with “Never Enough.”

Belanio, a first-time Wish Date performer, displayed her well-roundedness as an artist as she performed Katherine McPhee and Zachary Levi’s “Terrified,” Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name,” Air Supply’s “The One That You Love,” and Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For.”
