Balladeer Richard Reynoso Drops 30th Anniversary Album ‘Walang Kapantay: The OPM Classics’

Renowned balladeer Richard Reynoso is back with a brand-new album in commemoration of his 30th anniversary in the music industry.

The singer, who became popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s with hits like “Paminsan-minsan” and “Hindi Ko Kaya,” has dropped his latest offering -- a digital album titled “Walang Kapantay: The OPM Classics” -- on June 8, Friday.

The nine-track record released under Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI) Records is a compilation of timeless OPM tunes, including “Minamahal, Sinasamba,” “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” and the titular single, “Walang Kapantay.”

In a radio interview during the June 8 episode of “Wishpers of Love,” the 48-year-old singer revealed that with his anniversary album, he intends to introduce the wonderful music of yesteryear to the younger generation of listeners.

“The usual thing is that when artists come out, they usually move forward and look for new songs...new genres to experiment with. What I did was, I took a few step backwards, and then moved forward and brought with me eight immortal, classic Filipino music from legendary composers of the past -- Constancio De Guzman, Levi Celerio, and Dominador Santiago, to name a few. These are the names that millennials never talk about. But they are not just regular names -- they are famous names who gave us beautiful songs,” he shared.

“This project took some time because I had to look for the best immortal songs. Then, I talked to some of my friends to rearrange them to come up with something new. I wanted the new generation of listeners to enjoy them the way [the songs] were enjoyed back then,” the seasoned artist added.

Apart from the carefully chosen OPM classics, the digital album also includes the praise song, “Alay Sa’Yo,” an original composition of BMPI CEO and President Kuya Daniel Razon. Reynoso first sang the endearing ballad in 2012 during the grand finals of A Song of Praise (ASOP) Music Festival, a TV songwriting competition he co-hosts every Sunday on UNTV.

Meanwhile, the veteran OPM act dubbed as the 90’s Prince of Ballad, took to social media his gratitude for the support he has received throughout the years.

“For 30 years in show business, I have been given the opportunity to perform songs about love lost and love found, songs of renewed love and hopeless romance, songs of praises to the Almighty and [songs of] dedication to the country. To mark three decades of ups and downs (mostly ups) I experienced in the industry, I would like to dedicate this to all my friends who have supported me all these years,” Reynoso remarked.

Besides doing solo projects, he is also part of the quartet OPM Hitmen, composed of esteemed hitmakers Rannie Raymundo, Renz Verano and Chad Borja.
