Ben&Ben’s ‘Could Be Something’ is an Anthem for the Doubt-Stricken

The band marks a new chapter in their career with the electronic-leaning track that they dedicate to those grappling with doubt.

If you have doubts looming over your head, Ben&Ben’s newest song offers a “mature kind of hope” to help you overcome it.

According to a collective statement of the nine-piece band, “Could Be Something” is “about turning doubt into belief.”

“It’s the revival of hope after being caught in a very cynical place. It’s the feeling you get after meeting someone who unexplainably makes you believe in love again, or finding a new passion that sparks life in you,” they shared in an Instagram post.

While the song’s lyrics look like a love song on the surface, the award-winning outfit enthused that it’s “an anthem for people grappling with doubt.” And, ultimately, it’s a reminder for listeners to “believe, surrender, and let go during challenging seasons.”

Ben&Ben’s lyricism remains easy to access in “Could Be Something.” However, the soundscape of the track pushes the envelope and takes the band to a new chapter in their musical journey.

From the reassuring lilt of their earlier hits such as “Leaves” and the groove-inducing pop appeal of releases such as “Pagtingin” and “Paninindigan Kita,” they now lean toward electronic music. In their brand-new single, they “infuse their guitar-driven folk/pop-rock roots with city pop elements, tropicalia beats, and twinkling production touches.”

“We used slightly darker chords, coupled with tight rhythms, to bring out a unique kind of catharsis for the listener, for our Liwanag,” the band explained.

For the track, they enlisted ONE CLICK STRAIGHT‘s timothy Run and Sam Marquez to sit as co-producers, giving it a sound that’s lush, tight, and fit for the song’s theme, which is personal growth.

“Could Be Something” is only the beginning of a new era for Ben&Ben. The esteemed outfit is slated to headline a five-city international tour, in collaboration with ABS-CBN Global and 1MX Music Festival. They are expected to perform the new song for fans based in London, Los Angeles, Toronto, Sydney, and Dubai.
