ena mori and Tomggg Team Up for Flavorful Track, ‘いちごミルク (ICHIGO MIRUKU)’

Filipina-Japanese pop artist ena mori has teamed up with Japanese producer and beatmaker Tomggg to produce “いちごミルク (ICHIGO MIRUKU),” which translates to “strawberry milk.”

The song marries the intricate, introspective, and eclectic lyricism of the artist behind one of NME’s Best Asian Albums of 2022 and the dazzling “playroom pop” beats of the acclaimed Japanese music maker. Filled with LSS-inducing lines and flavorful bops, this candy pop track paints Tokyo as a vibrant, bustling city where people can enjoy getting lost in.

Not only is the hyperpop song’s melody undeniably upbeat and a jolt of sonic energy, lyrically, “いちごミルク (ICHIGO MIRUKU)” presents a unique and sweet fusion of Japanese and English lines, which is a refreshing addition to ena mori’s catalog of English-written tracks.

Asian brand of pop

Sticking with her goal of writing “pop that pushes boundaries,” the recently released track is a fitting follow-up to ena mori’s 12-track  “DON’T BLAME THE WILD ONE!” album, her full-length offering that tackles profound feelings of fragility, sadness, and shame with honesty, eccentricity, and synthpop.

The song “FALL INLOVE!” from this award-winning album has earned Tomggg’s attention and eventually kindled his interest to create music with ena mori.

“いちごミルク (ICHIGO MIRUKU)” follows the Japanese producer’s 2022 album titled “counterpoint,” an easy-listening collection of seven beat-laden collaborations with artists such as kiki vivi lily, Ryahn, Sarah Hemi, and LIL SOFT TENNIS.

Last month, ena mori showcased her artistry and represented the country at SXSW 2023’s “Tiger Den” in Austin, Texas. “Not only will it be my first time performing in the States but being able to represent my heritage as an Asian Artist at Tiger Den is exciting and nerve-racking at the same time,” the singer-songwriter said in an interview.

On February 26, the “VIVID” artist performed live at the NOOK alongside Zsaris, Sulo, Fern., and Zild, for a fundraiser for her SXSW stint.

“I am still in disbelief. We raised a total of 152,540 pesos to support my trip to SXSW! I feel so grateful to be in this position because I’ll not be able to do this without you all. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for supporting, encouraging, and believing in my music, and ultimately, for making my dream come to life,” she wrote on Instagram.

Earlier this year, ena mori received her first nominations at the 8th Wish Music Awards for Wishclusive Pop Performance of the Year for “Vivid” and Wish Breakthrough Artist of the Year. She has also made her debut performance at the WMAs stage with her magnetic tracks “VIVID” and “White Room.”
