Fritz, Elji and Manuel: A Beautiful Farewell

For a die-hard fan of any music act, hearing their idols announce a farewell concert is a heartbreaking, bittersweet news. But one has to accept the truth and better yet, do what is necessary to be able to see their favorite performers one last time.

Last February 10 was definitely a night to remember for three lucky, long-time fans of Yellowcard, the American pop-punk band who made headlines in the latter half of 2016 after revealing that they are finally calling it quits.

Currently, the quartet is holding their final world tour as they promote their last work — a self-titled album. On Friday, the band returned to Manila to stage what would be a nostalgic sold-out show at the Skydome in SM City North Edsa, Quezon City.

As part of the station’s wish-granting advocacy, Elji De Guzman, Fritz Carlo Rosal and Manuel Christian Schuldes were granted with free tickets to witness the spectacular night.

Since first year high school, Manuel, 25, was already hooked with the music of Yellowcard.

“I’ve wanted to watch them since the first time they arrived [in the country], but I wasn’t able to save up [back then]. Now that I was able to go [to their last concert here] – it’s the best thing ever!”

For his thank-you message, he shared, “Thanks! Seriously, you don’t know how much this meant to me. For people who know me, I’m a very chill guy, very cool, quiet, but here, being able to watch Yellowcard – I totally lost myself. It was the best experience of my entire life. And I hope you give this kind of chance to other people.”

For Quezon City-based freelance designer Fritz, the gents of Yellowcard were a big part of his childhood. Asked about getting the chance to watch their last show, he said: “Masaya, kasi knowing na last na tour na nila, tapos magdi-disband na… basta nakaka-overwhelm!”

([I’m] happy, knowing that this will be their last tour and they’ll be disbanded… I was overwhelmed!)

Second year college student Elji has also been an avid fan since her high school days. As stoked as Manuel and Fritz were, he shared he was really delighted to have watched the concert.

“Sobrang saya po! Sobrang happy po kasi years ko sila hinintay na makita (It was so much fun! I’m very glad because I waited them for years),” she said, hoping that Wish 107.5 can continue granting the wishes of their listeners.

An equally grateful vocalist Ryan Key expressed his appreciation to their Filipino fans, including Manuel, Fritz and Elji, who accompanied their memorable journey as musicians.
