From Singing to Songwriting, Charice Shows New Side in 'Catharsis'

Charice has wowed the likes of Ellen Degeneres and David Foster with her raw talent. After her record-breaking feat of becoming the first Asian solo act to land in the Billboard Top 200 Albums’ top ten back in 2010, the world was convinced — a new music superstar was born.

Twists and turns may have juiced up her career but the “most talented girl in the world,” as she was called by Oprah, is brave and gifted enough to continue her musical journey and offer something new to her loyal fans.

One proof is her upcoming album under Star Music, “Catharsis.”

Defined by Merriam-Webster as “the act or process of releasing a strong emotion especially by expressing it in an art form,” the album title is fitting for Charice’s comeback in the recording studio — not only did she return as an exceptional singer but a budding composer as well.

“Catharsis,” a follow-up to her 2013 album, “Chapter 10,” is her debut as a songwriter. She revealed that she wrote all the cuts included in the track listing.

“I’m excited for people to hear my album, which is coming out this September. Primarily, it’s because I composed all the songs here and secondly, I was accompanied by [OPM band] Mayonnaise,” she shared during her Roadshow guesting.

“The album itself has different emotions, for instance, my newest single — it’s a happy song, it’s all about falling in love, seeing the person you’re with as your epitome of beauty. It’s pop rock. Meanwhile, the other tracks are leaning towards the alternatives and blues,” she added, affirming that “Catharsis” is “a little bit of everything.”

The 24-year-old international singing sensation also said that traveling has created a huge impact in her songwriting skills.

“I feel inspired seeing and meeting different people every day, hearing different stories. They make me feel alive and inspired to create music. Especially that I get to travel a lot, it’s easier for me to write songs,” she remarked in a statement.

Charice boarded the Wish 107.5 Bus last August 5 and premiered a WISHclusive acoustic version of her newest single, “Epitome of Beauty.”

This blog post has completely changed my perspective on music. It's a must-read for any music lover.
