Hajji Alejandro to Mark 45th Year in Music Industry with ‘Ako at Ang Aking Musika’ Concert

Seasoned OPM singer Hajji Alejandro is set to stage his biggest concert to date as he celebrates his 45th anniversary in the music industry.

Titled “Ako at Ang Aking Musika,” the original kilabot ng mga kolehiyala (college girls’ heartthrob) will bring his biggest hits to The Theatre at Solaire in Pasay City on June 23, Saturday.

The concert will also feature his daughter Rachel, hitmakers Marco Sison and Rey Valera, and singer-actress Celeste Legaspi as special guests.

A Colorful Career

During his Roadshow guesting on May 23, the 63-year-old artist told Wish 107.5 what his fans can expect on his upcoming concert.

“You will hear the story of my music journey -- how I started in the business all the way to the present. I will share the highlights of my singing career as a lot of colorful things have happened in my life together with the music that I did years ago,” he said.

Alejandro, who became a household name in the 70s and 80s, is known for the classics “Nakapagtataka” and “Panakip Butas.” He was part of the ensemble, Circus Band, where fellow OPM veteran Basil Valdez was also a member.

One of the most important high-points of his career is his victorious stint at the 1978 Metropop Song Festival. He was the interpreter of the Ryan Caybayab-penned “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika,” the song that won the grand prize in the pilot edition of the country’s pioneering songwriting festival.

On Today’s OPM Scene

According to the veteran OPM act, today’s local music scene is brimming with much potential.

“It’s on the right track. I hear a lot of artists with great potential whenever I listen to the radio. I hope that more composers can create more beautiful OPM pieces,” he beamed, adding that competitions like Metropop Song Festival provide a great avenue for “songwriters to come up with the best original compositions.”

As a word of advice for aspiring singers, he said that they should know how to properly convey the message of the song they are interpreting.

“Singing is actually storytelling. It’s about how good you are in sharing the story of a song. If you will be able to do this, people will listen to you -- they won’t get bored, they’d listen to each word,” he enthused.

Alejandro’s “Ako at Ang Aking Musika” is the latest offering of the “Powerhouse” concert series, a collaborative project between Solaire Resort and fast-rising local promoter Lucky 7 Koi Productions, Inc.

The musical venture has previously featured powerhouse Filipino acts such as Arnel Pineda, Morissette and Erik Santos.
