Hindley Street Country Club Plays Classics in Manila Show
Hindley Street Country Club, or simply HSCC, is hailed as “the greatest cover band in the world” today. Originally from South Australia, the band has gone viral with their stunning renditions of many classics.
As of writing, they currently have over 1.1 million subscribers on YouTube.
Taking their digital success to the live stage, HSCC visited the country for a one-night show at the New Frontier Theater on Sunday, September 29.
The band captivated the audience with their covers of hits from icons. Their setlist included “I Have Nothing,” “Easy Lover,” “Careless Whisper,” “You to Me Are Everything,” “Islands in the Stream,” “Too Much Heaven,” “September,” “Rosanna,” “Live and Let Die,” “Under Pressure,” “Boogie Wonderland” and “You Can Call Me Al.”
“This is our very first headlining show ever. Thank you, Manila, for this unforgettable night,” the band said during one portion of the event.
HSCC founder Constantine Delo previously called the Philippines their “biggest market in the world.” Filipinos, known for their evident passion and talent for singing, account for billions of views on HSCC’s channel.
Ahead of their Sunday show, the band boarded the Wish Bus and gave listeners a taste of their artistry, performing their own take on “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” “I Wanna Know What Love Is,” and “Too Much Heaven.”
In a Roadshow interview, HSCC shared how thankful they are to be able to travel the world, “It’s amazing going out to see people in other countries… We just love what we do, and we’re just so happy to be here doing this in your beautiful country.”
When asked how they curate their cover selections, the band said it’s all about good music.
“We just pick really good songs that have stood the test of time. They’re still good now, and they were good 40 years ago, and that’s the measure of a good song. And we do music that everyone can relate to.”
When doing covers, HSCC makes sure they inject their own artistry.
“There is no such thing as a perfect cover. We just reimagine the cover and put our own spin on it. It’s a few subtle changes that you people who understand music or the song will know, but we call it the ‘HSCC muscle.’ We give it our own little bit of some special sauce,” HSCC shared.
