Jinky Salem: Brighter Vision, Brighter Future

For a student, being unable to clearly see what is written on the board is an inconvenience that could compromise important things. This is why when Maria Jinky Salem, a Business Administration student of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, spotted our Wishing Wall at their campus, she seized the chance to ask a simple wish.

Jinky was about to go home when she saw a lot of students gathered around the Wish booth near their school entrance. She asked her classmates to accompany her; their clique then wrote their respective wishes.

What Jinky asked for was a pair of eyeglasses.

“Nahihirapan kasi akong makita yung nakasulat sa board. Malabo kasi paningin ko,” she shared, admitting that she fervently prayed for her simple dream to be fulfilled.

(I was having difficulty seeing what was written on the board because my eyesight is really poor.)

“That time pinagdasal kong ma-grant yung wish ko kahit na parang imposible sa dami ba namang nag-post din ng kani-kanilang wish sa Wishing Wall.”

(That time I prayed for my wish to be granted even though it seemed impossible because there were a lot of people who posted their respective wishes in the Wishing Wall.)

Carrying a hopeful heart, Jinky remained optimistic that what she wished will be chosen.

“Hindi rin namang masamang mag-try, so nag-post na din ako ng wish ko [kasi] kailangan ko talaga yun. I’m hoping [that my wish will be granted] para maging maayos na yung pag-take down ko ng notes na malaking bagay bilang isang estudyante,” she told Wish.

(There’s nothing wrong with trying so I posted my wish, after all I really needed it. I’m hoping [that my wish will be granted] so that taking down notes would be easier — it’s very important as a student.)

Jinky’s prayers were answered when she learned she was one of the lucky Wishers we will feature on our second anniversary celebration. Getting her eyes checked up and receiving the rare chance to have a new pair of eyeglasses for free, she couldn’t be more grateful.

Greeting and thanking us with a delightful smile, she said, “Good luck and happy anniversary! Tapos thank you po, thank you po kasi binigyan ako ng opportunity na ako yung mapipili.”

(Good luck and happy anniversary! Also, thank you, thank you because I was given the opportunity to be chosen.)

Now, Jinky is a step closer toward having a brighter future.
