The Way Disco Lovers Like it: KC and The Sunshine Band Stages Big Dome Concert

The Araneta Coliseum turned into a big disco house when KC and The Sunshine Band — the ultimate disco group of the '70s and '80s — performed their biggest hits during a two-hour show last September 14.

Led by vocalist Harry “KC” Wayne Casey, a first timer in Manila, the band turned the energy up with their ecstatic performances of “That’s the Way (I Like It)”, “I’m Your Boogie Man”, “Please Don’t Go” and “Give It Up.”

Though he is already in his 60s, KC was still exuding with youthful vibes, crooning to and dancing with their hits just as he did during his band’s younger years. Also on the spotlight were his fellow bandmates who wowed the audience with their skillful showmanship either during their solo or group stints.

Matching the band’s dynamic acts, the eager crowd also stood up and danced the night away, throwing signature disco moves here and there. Some lucky fans even got the chance to do it on stage with KC.

With the band performing hit after hit and the crowd (though lacking of younger members) brimming with excitement to savor every moment, the night was indeed a musical retrospective rekindling the love for everything discotheque.

During the event, KC and the Sunshine Band also performed a brand new song, “We Belong Together.” Though an upbeat one, the tune is the group’s call for unity.

“We all truly belong together, and we all have the right to be free,” KC introduced, sharing that through the track, the band wishes to give hope amidst the tragic events that happen around the globe.

KC capped off the epic evening with a second run of “Please Don’t Go,” emphasizing on the line “I love you so” as a way to show his appreciation to their Filipino fans.

The Grammy award-winning group hailing from Florida is composed of Janell Burgess, Chris Cadenhead, Maria De Crescenzo, Fernando Diez, Francisco Dimas, Anika Ellis, Miles Fielder, Fermin Goytisolo, Steve Lashley, Robert Lee, Kennetha Morris, John Reid, Jeffery Reeves, and David Simmons.

DJ Boy Almazan served as the show’s opening act, delivering a blast from the past by spinning yesteryears’ most memorable dance tracks.

The concert was presented by Ovation Productions.
