KZ Tandingan Drops New Soulful Track, ‘Dito Ka Lang’

Ahead of the launch of her full-length album, “Soul Supremacy II,” Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan released her latest love song, “Dito Ka Lang.” The track, published under Star Music on June 23, 2023, is a prelude to what listeners can expect in her anticipated record.

She was inspired to write “Dito Ka Lang” when her husband and fellow musician, TJ Monterde, was out of the country for a tour and Tandingan was left alone at their house. Though the tour lasted only for a month, it felt like a long time for her.

“That was the first time we were apart for more than two weeks since we started dating nine years ago. So, parang nawalan ng direksyon ang buhay ko (It was as if my life lost a sense of direction),” she shared during the single’s launch at the Academy of Rock in Quezon City on June 22, 2023.

The self-penned piece revolves around the musical couple’s experiences of being together for nearly a decade. The separation anxiety that she felt during Monterde’s tour abroad added more emotional depth to her newest offering.

“As time goes by, you’ll learn [that] love is not just about one thing. Kumbaga, may mga kilig (There are heart-fluttering moments). But after we got married, we realized that when you commit to a person, it takes a lot of hard work [to remain committed],” she added.

The soulful song from the “Marupok” act is a product of an international collaboration: It was mixed and mastered by Grammy winners, Jackie Boom and Jett Galindo of The Bakery LA and produced by ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo.

Gearing up for ‘Soul Supremacy II’

In celebration of her first decade in the music scene, Tandingan will be releasing her full-length album, “Soul Supremacy II.” It serves as a follow-up to her 2017 hit album, “Soul Supremacy.”

Apart from “Dito Ka Lang,” the prelude track of the soon-to-be-released album, she also unveiled a sweet and captivating music video for “Dito Ka Lang,” which features television stars Kobie Brown and Andi Abaya. In the accompanying visuals of the song, the actors share beautiful moments as they celebrate a kind of love that encompasses everything.

“Feeling ko hindi ko deserve ‘yung kind of love na ibinibigay sa akin ng asawa ko. Although, feeling ko sobra-sobra ‘yung pagmamahal niya, thankful po ako. Siguro tama nga ano, it’s also showing my insecurity na, sometimes, people tell me [that] I don’t deserve him. But ‘yun nga, like I also say in the song, kahit tsamba man or sadya ‘yung pagbigay sa akin ng pagkakataon or ng Panginoon kay TJ — I won’t take this for granted,” the Asia’s Soul Supreme concluded.

(I feel like I don’t deserve the kind of love that my husband gives me. Although I’m thankful because the love he has for me is immense. Perhaps it’s my insecurity showing because, sometimes, people tell me that I don’t deserve him. But as I say in the song, even if it’s by chance or if destiny or God purposely gave TJ to me — I won’t take this for granted.)
