Going Big on Spotify: Leanne and Naara’s ‘Again’ Hits 1 Million Streams

The singing-songwriting tandem of Leanne Mamonong and Naara Acueza is poised to take over the local music scene. One proof is the overwhelming feat achieved by their debut single, “Again.”

After the track’s release in August, it climbed up the Spotify viral charts, reaching no. 1 in the country, no. 2 in Singapore and Indonesia, no. 3 in Malaysia and no. 12 on the Global Viral 50. It also hit one million streams in less than two months — a huge number to garner for an up-and-coming act.

Leanne and Naara’s team-up as an acoustic duo began during their first year of college. From performing before their schoolmates in Assumption College, the two were introduced into a larger audience after they were signed under Warner Music Philippines this year.

“We’ve been singing together since our first year in college and it took off from there. Recently, we’ve been also working on originals,” the duo told Wish.

“Again,” their first original to take the industry by storm, is a “song that tries to explain how it feels like to be empty or dull.”

According to the ladies, “it can be about love, but it can also be about anything, something that you’re passionate at, then you feel dull about it and you just want to feel again.”

“You see this predicament I’m in/ It’s a really tough one/ And I need a hand/ See, I think I’ve lost my sense of feeling/ To be quite frank,” the duo sings.

The track’s rather sad and sentimental lyrics were made even more appealing by its ironically cheery melody and by the duo’s lovely harmonies. It is currently available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and Deezer.

Along with Autotelic and Kyle Echarri, the fast-rising tandem graced last October 4’s Roadshow broadcasted live from the Philippine Christian University where the Wish bus was stationed. The two performed a stripped down version of “Again,” and a cover of “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette and “Sila” by labelmate SUD.

With the pleasing sonic chemistry Leanne and Naara exude, they are proving that their current single and any of their future tunes are worthy of many more million streams.

This blog post has completely changed my perspective on music. It's a must-read for any music lover.
