Letters from June on Signing with KDR Music House, New Single ‘Bituin,’ and Big Dome Debut

“…Now we’re making music for a lot of people to hear.”

Alt-pop band Letters from June has recently joined the roster of musical gems from KDR Music House.

The troupe — composed of Lourence Compuesto (main vocals and rhythm guitars), Michelle Fajkovic (backup vocals and keys), Arvy Perez (electric guitars), Sean Villa (electric guitars), Deign Porol (bass), and Ken Lunas (drums) — is now ready to break through the OPM scene with their raw talent.

The band, officially formed in November 2022, used to create music together in a dorm room, eagerly listening to their originals in their cars. They also shared the same passion for arts and music as school theater members.

“Turning feelings into music,” their original pieces take inspiration from their personal stories infused with indie, soul, and cosmic sounds. Now that they’ve started carving their name in the music scene, the group admitted the need to elevate their musicality and continuously evolve.

“I think that we’re definitely more mature…yeah, and we’re more strict now. Starting out, we were just a band in college who made music for fun. We made music in a dorm for fun, just to listen to it in our cars. And now we’re making music for a lot of people to hear. So definitely the standard has become higher. So we felt that we had to improve ourselves for our previous sound. And I think that made us more mature, in a way,” Compuesto said in an interview with DJ Alice.

On June 20, Letters from June boarded the Wish Bus and performed their fresh spin to Coldplay’s “Yellow” and their debut single, “Bituin.” The song premiered on major music streaming platforms on June 14 and was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday and Fresh Finds Philippines playlists.

“Bituin” was conceived of Compuesto’s personal narrative. The band then transformed the song into a captivating anthem that tells a tale of “love and longing.” Fittingly serving as the band’s debut, the song can be considered a love letter from the band —  thanks to its honest, candid, and poetic lyricism. Its simplicity can captivate Filipino listeners in its first few verses.

Although the band’s Filipina-Bosnian keyboardist Michelle Fajkovic admits that it’s challenging for her to take part in the creative process since this is their first Tagalog song, she recounts how it was fun doing it as a whole band.

“In the process of creating the song together, I came to really, deeply understand the concept of the song and how it is conveyed, even though I don’t fully can’t translate it whenever I listen to it…It was a nice journey. It was a really nice song to make. [I’m] really glad to be a part of it. And I’m glad all of us worked on it together,” she told DJ Alice during their Roadshow guesting.

One stellar night at the Big Dome

One of the many projects that await the band after inking a recording deal with KDR Music House is their stint at the Wish Date “Send My Love” concert.

Coinciding with the launch of “Bituin,” it was also announced that the song would serve as the official soundtrack of the event’s short film. Wish Date is a concert series that combines film, theater, and live music.

On June 30, Letters from June made their Big Dome debut for the thirteenth installment of Wish Date to perform a heart-rending live version of “Bituin.”

“We couldn’t have wished for a better crowd and experience than this! A big thanks to KDR Music House and Wish 107.5 for making this possible. It’s still a long way to go, but we’re thankful to have taken this step with all of you. Sincerely yours, Letters from June.

Recently, the six-piece troupe also performed for the “Babaeng Torpe goes to Araw ng Tagaytay” event with Gracenote and Better Days. The band will also return to the Araneta Coliseum stage as a front act alongside other KDR Music House artists for Puregold’s “Nasa Atin Ang Panalo” Thanksgiving Concert. The show will happen on July 12, Friday, featuring OPM giants BINI, SB19, Flow G, and Sunkissed Lola.

“…The support that we’ve been given and that we’ve been receiving is just, we’re just so thankful for everything,” Compuesto enthused during their Wish Bus gig.

Wearing their hearts on their sleeves and exuding burning passion every time they hit the stage, Letters from June is indeed a promising act to watch out for in 2024.
