‘Someone You Loved’ Hitmaker Lewis Capaldi to Perform in Manila this July

Grammy-nominated pop phenomenon Lewis Capaldi, best known for the 2019 heart-rending hit “Someone You Loved,” is headed to the Philippines on July 27, 2023, Thursday, for a concert produced by Wilbros Live.

The show, which will be held at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City, will be in support of his upcoming sophomore album, “Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent.” It will also mark the first time that the Scottish singer-songwriter will perform in the country.

Fans can buy tickets via Ticketnet. Prices are as follows: VIP, Php6,825; Orchestra, Php5,250; Loge, Php4,725; Balcony A, Php3,675; and Balcony B, Php2,625.

An anticipated sophomore record

Capaldi’s “Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent” album, out on May 19, is a follow-up to his highly acclaimed debut, “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.” The LP, which spawned the smash hit “Someone You Loved,” earned him a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year and two Brit Awards: Best Song and Best New Artist.

Echoing the same rawness of his first album, the 26-year-old musician aspires to deliver a record with “straight-up, full-force honesty,” according to a press release. “I don’t want to create a new sound for myself or reinvent myself. The songs I want to write are emotional songs about love or loss,” he explained.

“Forget Me,” the first single he released off the record, is a pop track that dives deep into the dark side of life after a breakup. In a feature from Genius, Capaldi shared that the song is a “Ferris’ Wheel of happy memories you wish you could erase from your mind.”

“Wish You the Best,” another post-break-up tune, is a bittersweet revelation of things left unsaid. Meanwhile, “Pointless” is a romantic ballad inspired by an unfinished Ed Sheeran song. “Of all the dreams I’m chasing/ There’s only one I choose/ Everything is pointless without you,” he passionately croons in the chorus.

In a Rolling Stone article, Capaldi shared that he worked with The 1975’s Matt Healy for some of the tracks in the album. For his eagerly anticipated record, he also collaborated with producers Steve Mac, Phil Plested, Max Martin, Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, and music production crew TMS.

The show goes on

In September last year, Capaldi revealed his Tourette Syndrome diagnosis. This condition, which affects the nervous system and causes tics or repetitive twitches, movements, and sounds, worsens when someone is in an excited or stressful state.

In the Netflix documentary “How I’m Feeling Now,” the artist candidly opened up not just about his diagnosis but also about the mental health struggles he has been experiencing as a musician.

“Music is something I really care about — one of the few things I care about enough to put that much pressure on myself. If it’s only you putting pressure on yourself, it’s only you who can, like stop,” he remarked at one point in his intimate chronicling.

Despite his battles, Capaldi continues his craft.

In one of his performances in Frankfurt, Germany in February, fans lauded how he went on to finish “Someone You Loved” even after experiencing head and shoulder twitches.

For his awaited Asia tour, he will also make stops in Singapore and South Korea.
