Live from the 3rd Wish Music Awards: BMPI's Kuya Daniel Razon Reveals Future Plans for Wish 107.5

If you’re an avid listener of Wish 107.5 and a subscriber of its highly-popular YouTube channel, you will be familiar with the “Wish 107.5” and “Wishclusive on Wish 107.5” audio stingers. In case you’re wondering who is the voice behind these, you’d be glad to know that the man revealed himself and sampled -- not just once, but twice -- the ubiquitous line live on stage at the 3rd Wish 107.5 Music Awards.

Kuya Daniel Razon is not just a multi-awarded broadcast journalist. As the CEO and President of Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI), he is the brains behind all the innovations of the FM radio station, which include the Wish 107.5 Bus, its wish-granting endeavors, Wishcovery and the WMA.

However, his big reveal was not only him being the voice behind “Wish 107.5,” during the well-attended event held on Monday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum, he also gave a glimpse of the exciting plans he has for the three-year-old radio station.

From PH to Hollywood

The theme of last Monday’s occasion was “Taking Filipino Music Across the Globe.” According to Kuya Daniel, “as a first step towards this wish, [the station is] duplicating the Wish Bus not only here in the Philippines but also abroad.”

“Now it’s already in Hollywood and waiting for the inauguration…Soon after this Wish Music Awards, you will be seeing that bus,” he remarked.

Earlier in December during the press conference of WMA, he said that “what we really wanted to do is to multiply the Wish 107.5 Bus so we can showcase our Filipino artists all over the globe. We want the Wish 107.5 Bus to become a pride of the Philippines -- capable of bringing Filipino talents to the world, not just here in the country.”

Apart from the duplication of the roving music hub, dubbed as the “Pambansang Wish Bus,” in the so-called entertainment capital of the world, Kuya Daniel is also planning to unveil another Wish Bus in London.

The Wish 107.5 Bus is a musical vehicle that brings the music of different artists closer to the people.

A wish from decades ago

Though Wish 107.5 only came to existence in 2014, Kuya Daniel’s wish to be of help to Filipino artists actually goes as far back as the 80’s, when he first started as a disc jockey.

“First and foremost, I am grateful to God for giving me this opportunity to become a small instrument in uplifting the talents of our Filipino artists...I never thought that that simple whisper of ‘Wish 107.5’ will really go a long way. [Now], the fervent wish in the beginning grew into more of a commitment, and this third installment of the music awards, Filipino music, Filipino artists and the Filipino race are all wanting to conquer the global music scene,” he said, earning cheers from the jam-packed Araneta crowd.

Making the already-noble endeavor even more meaningful is his efforts to incorporate the concept of charity.

Wish award-winning crooner Michael Pangilinan chooses Save The Children as his beneficiary.

Every WMA, winners of major awards are given the chance to choose their beneficiaries, which will receive a cash donation worth Php 100,000 from Wish 107.5 each. This amount is separate from the 25,000 peso-worth of cash prize handed out to the winning artists.

"With these small things that we've started, I think that somehow we could grant the humble wishes of our fellow people. This is the only music award show that uses recognition to do good to those who are in need,” he further emphasized in his inspirational message.

Meanwhile, Leah Lagmay of Meritxell Children’s World Foundation, one of the beneficiaries of the 3rd WMA, lauded this one-of-a-kind advocacy. “You are a means by which we can spread the word to so many Filipinos that if we all come together, we can do many things for the needy,” she shared in an interview.

Apart from the WMA, Wish 107.5 grants the earnest wishes of its listeners on a regular basis. The wishes come from the “Wishing Walls” being put up by the station in different parts of the country.

This blog post has completely changed my perspective on music. It's a must-read for any music lover.
