MEGA’s The NewPH Awards: Wish 107.5’s Kuya Daniel Razon Recognized for Spearheading Phenomenal Innovation in Music Industry

Wish 107.5 creator Kuya Daniel Razon is this year’s recipient of MEGA Magazine’s The NewPH Award for Music.

The seasoned broadcaster and industry luminary earned the recognition for spearheading “Wish 107.5’s bold move for innovation in the music industry as well as broadcast media.”

The awarding ceremony coincided with the annual MEGA Millennial Ball held on June 12. Now on its fourth year, The NewPH Awards honors “notable figures from different slices of society who best represent the new breed of Filipinos today and most importantly, those who continue to push the boundaries within their respective industries.”

‘Pop Culture Phenomenon’

Razon is the CEO and President of Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI), the company that manages and provides content for Wish 107.5. Under his helm, the station has introduced numerous initiatives unprecedented in the world of radio broadcasting -- the most notable of which is the Wish 107.5 Bus.

What started as a simple wish for the innovator has paved the way for the birth of the said mobile FM studio, which “is the simple albeit, genius concept that has propelled Wish 107.5 to a pop culture phenomenon,” according to the country’s leading fashion magazine.

Fully-outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, the Wish Bus has shifted the way people experience music in the country. The musical vehicle houses performances of artists across different genres, bringing ticketless mini-concerts straight to people.

The Wish Bus attracts a huge crowd at the Eton Centris in Quezon City during Wish 107.5’s “2M x 2” event celebrating station’s 2 million subscribers on YouTube.

The “Wishclusives” filmed on the bus are then uploaded to the Wish YouTube Channel. With the high-definition videos’ availability online, music lovers and entertainment seekers have gained easy access to hundreds of performances that showcase the country’s talent and passion for music.

“Wish 107.5 is very commendable. I am delighted with the out-of-the-box innovations the station has introduced to really capture the audience,” acoustic star and former National Youth Commission chief Ice Seguerra noted.

As of writing, the channel now has nearly three million subscribers and one billion accumulated views.

Pinoy Pride

Nonetheless, Razon’s vision to “take on the best of both worlds,” i.e. traditional and digital media, is more than just a “bold move” that aims to transform the country’s musical landscape. Through Wish 107.5, the multi-awarded media personality is keen to sustaining a platform that will serve as “the gateway to the world for OPM.”

“I believe in the Filipino music artistry, and our focus in the future is to take the Filipino music across the globe,” he said in an interview for MEGA.

On top of launching another Wish Bus in the Philippines, a counterpart of the roving music hub will soon be rolling down the streets of Hollywood, U.S.A. The United States does not only cradle the entertainment capital of the world, it is also where the third largest chunk of Wish YouTube viewers come from -- next to United Arab Emirates.

“Ever since we discovered the Wish 107.5 YouTube Channel, it has opened up the world of Filipino music to us,” Kentucky, US-based Alicia and Angelina of the Angelina Eonni88 YouTube Channel remarked.

Jay Smooove, a YouTuber hailing from California, also shared his appreciation of the station. “Wish 107.5 has got fans all over the world including myself here in the United States. I just want to say thank you for always bringing great music and giving artists a platform to share their gifts,” he said.

Wish 107.5 innovator Kuya Daniel Razon shares his plans for the station to go global during the 3rd Wish Music Awards held on January 15 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Meanwhile, Razon admitted that his idea actually “started as ridiculous to many, to some extent unimaginable.” But taking risks indeed pays off because “now, the Wish Bus is an icon of innovation in the broadcast industry.”

Sharing an important note on innovating, he enthused: “We are wired to always be thinking five steps ahead and treading the path less travelled. We take risks all the time and we believe that is the only way to move further and beyond.”

Besides Razon, MEGA also handed out The NewPH awards to KZ Tandingan (music), Heart Evangelista-Escudero (visual arts), Sunnies Studios (business), Will Dasovich (social media), and Mark Nicdao (photography) among others.

This blog post has completely changed my perspective on music. It's a must-read for any music lover.
