Myrtle Sarrosa on Her Sophomore Album: ‘It’s Basically Me in a Nutshell’

Actress-cosplayer Myrtle Sarrosa’s sophomore album is all you need to have if you wish to know more about the Pinoy Big Brother (Teen Edition 4) grand winner.

During the launching of her latest record, she shared that “Now Playing Myrtle” is “basically [her] in a nutshell.” The nine-track effort is composed of songs crossing over pop, R&B, and hip-hop that she wrote/co-wrote herself.

In a Facebook post, Myrtle expressed she could not believe she has made an album featuring all-original songs.

“Truly a dream come true to find so many people who believe in my songwriting skills. Still unbelievable that my album is finally out and that now my voice can finally be heard. Thank you for the continuous support.”

When she brought her music to the Wish 107.5 Bus last August, the 21-year-old artist shared how she came up with the album.

“Actually nagsimula lang siya when I was sending out a demo tape dun sa producer kong kaibigan. I’ve been wanting to produce an album, tapos sabi ko sa kanila I don’t want to do any covers at all, kasi sa Facebook I’m already doing covers, kaya gusto ko if I have to do my own album, ako talaga magsusulat ng songs.”

(Actually it started when I was sending out a demo tape to my friend who is also a producer. I’ve been wanting to produce an album, and I said that I don’t want to any covers at all, since I’m already doing that on Facebook. If I have to do my own album, I want to write the tracks myself.)

According to Myrtle, “the entire song writing process really invoked a lot of critical thinking and getting the opinion of other people until we came up with a strong lineup of songs for the album.”

Speaking about her influences for the album, Myrtle said she was inspired by the urban and pop sensibilities of international artists Meghan Trainor and Iggy Azalea. As she also considers Abra one of her music heroes, she also featured her rapping skills on her latest musical offering.

During her Roadshow stint, she also performed a Wishclusive version of “Mr. Pakipot,” her album’s carrier single.

Myrtle continued to echo cheerful vibes as she eagerly shared another thing she is also currently enjoying — writing songs for others.

“Masaya ako kasi after nila ako bigyan ng opportunity to write my own songs, ngayon I’m writing for other artists. (I am happy because after they gave me the opportunity to write my own songs, now I’m writing for other artists) I wrote two songs in Jennylyn Mercado’s upcoming album.”

“Now Playing Myrtle” is released by Ivory Music and Video.

This blog post has completely changed my perspective on music. It's a must-read for any music lover.
