Nona Oriel: Rebuilding Hope and Home
Six years have passed since the destructive tropical storm Ondoy ravaged Luzon, but its aftermath is still felt by its victims. One of whom is among this month’s recipients of Wish 1075’s wish granting campaign.
Nona Oriel, a 62-year-old wisher from Padre Burgos, Quezon, still lives in her house which was damaged by the violent storm. Her wish to have her house repaired has remained only a plan for years because of financial inadequacy. This almost took her hope away.
Her family has always been on top of Nona’s priorities. Instead of spending for the reconstruction of their house, Nona allots her small earning as a house helper for her household needs and her grandchildren’s everyday expenses in school.
Hence, upon hearing about Wish 1075’s wish granting campaign through a friend, she immediately grabbed the chance to ask aid from the station.
When Nona learned that her wish will finally be fulfilled, she thanked God first believing it was an answered prayer. Then, she thanked Wish 1075 for helping her make their home a comfortable place to live in again.
A grateful Nona also dedicated a wish to the station, “May your station be blessed so that you could help more people especially the less fortunate,” she said in Filipino.
