‘Notes of Hope’: Wish 107.5 Donates 107 Tablets on its 6th Anniversary

Continuing its journey of breaking boundaries, Wish 107.5 celebrated its sixth anniversary in the industry through “Notes of Hope,” a digital benefit concert that aimed to aid the blended learning needs of deserving students.

The event was streamed live on the Wish YouTube channel on August 23, Sunday.

Camaraderie amid Covid-19

With “Notes of Hope,” the FM station was able to virtually unite thousands of spectators for a noble cause.

For the event, Wish together with its sponsors has initially pledged 100 tablets for students. 

The Department of Education (DepEd) has provided guidance on the specifications for laptops, tablets, and smartphones that may be used for the blended learning needs of students and teachers during the Covid-19 pandemic. In line with this, Huawei, one of the show’s presenters, recently launched device bundles that feature devices that comply with the DepEd’s guidelines. One of which is the  HUAWEI MateBook D14, a lightweight laptop with a FullView Display complete with eye-protection features.

This new approach is part of the government’s plan to minimize the spread of the Covid-19. Under the “new normal,” students will be able to access lessons via television, radio, and learning modules which will be available online and in print.

Since the announcement of the tablet pledge earlier this month, Wish has already started donating gadgets to select scholars.

Cristalyn Rea, an incoming third-year Accountancy student in Baliwag Polytechnic College, was one of the chosen recipients. In an interview, she noted that the gadget will not only be helpful to her but to her two other siblings as well. Her father, who is a taxi driver, has temporarily lost his job due to the pandemic. 

“I am very thankful because my message was noticed. To my fellow students, I hope that we could all keep going despite the difficulties and keep reaching for our goals,” she further shared. 

At the end of the two-and-a-half-hour concert, due to the overwhelming support of Wishers, Wish 107.5's management has decided to increase the number of learning devices to a total of 107.

Going full circle 

The ongoing pandemic has affected several sectors across the country — including the education sector as well as the music and live events community. And for the safety of its staff, supporters, and stakeholders, Wish has decided to go digital for its sixth anniversary. 

“Tonight is a first for us at Wish 107.5. Because of the pandemic, we are celebrating with all of you virtually... We are currently living in the new normal. We’ve seen fear, anxiety, and sadness rest among the people. Our friends from the live events industry are some of those who have been heavily hit, which is one of the reasons we strive to remain to be a platform where artists can continue to share their music and impart messages of positivity amid these difficult times,” BMPI President and CEO Kuya Daniel Razon shared in his speech. 

Citing how challenging the times may be, Kuya Daniel also enthused that “Wish will continue to spread joy and inspiration with God’s help, through music, and shine our light of hope and charity to the world.”

To some degree, “Notes of Hope” can be considered as a way of going full circle: As a station known for using both traditional radio broadcast and web-based platforms to promote music and charity, it is only fitting to give back and pay forward through a digital event.

As the show was streamed on its YouTube page, which has recently garnered over 9 million subscribers, the revelry also became accessible to more audiences compared to its previous anniversary celebrations that were held in popular live music venues.

Despite this change, Wish was still able to give a stellar set of performances from its guest artists. Following stringent safety protocols, the performers rendered their songs aboard the Wish 107.5 Bus and in a studio in Caloocan City. 

Singing notes of hope, the roster of performers included Moira, Jason Marvin, Darren Espanto, Sam Mangubat, The Juans, Bugoy Drilon, Daryl Ong, Mark Carpio, Munimuni, The Wishfuls, and SB19.

Espanto, who joined the concert all the way from Canada, enthused how grateful he is to be part of the celebration and lauded the cause it supports. 

“I think this endeavor is going to be very helpful to the kids in need. I believe that everyone has a right to education so with the help of Wish, this will become a reality for them,” he said in an interview. 

Munimuni, on the other hand, relayed how music can be used as a way to touch lives. “In our songs, we talk about [our] individual as well as collective struggles. Inarticulating these struggles, we hope that people may find solace and inspiration to keep on living towards a brighter future,” the makata-pop act told Wish.
