Orange and Lemons' Moonlane Festival: Star-Studded Music Fair, Album Launch, and More

In 2017, Orange and Lemons -- formerly a four-piece rock act -- officially announced their return as a trio after a decade-long hiatus. Scores of gigs and bar tours after, the band known for the hits “Hanggang Kailan” and “Heaven Knows” is now only a day shy from staging what can be considered as the biggest affair of their buzz-worthy comeback.

“Moonlane Festival,” a music fair curated by O&L themselves, is slated to happen on August 4 at the Century City Mall from 3 p.m. onwards.

Inspired by events where an artist also takes part in the production side (e.g. The Cure’s Robert Smith curating the 2018 edition of Meltdown Festival), the group has handpicked and invited 14 bands to perform at the star-studded gathering.

The performers will include OPM rock-scape fixtures Pupil, The Itchyworms, Sandwich, Join The Club, as well as some of the most recognized names in today’s band scene including Ang Bandang Shirley, Autotelic, Oh, Flamingo!, Munimuni, We are Imaginary, Blind Stereo Moon, and BennyBunnyBand.

Indie folk act Meagan Trees, New York-based Takethestage, and The Camerawalls (another band helmed by O&L vocalist Clem Castro) will also join the revelry.

O&L will headline the show, completing the 15-act line-up. They are expected to perform their “biggest hits, deep cuts, and rarities.”

The number of performers is of important significance as the same event will also celebrate the 15th anniversary of their debut album called “Love in the Land of Rubber Shoes and Dirty Ice Cream.”

Vocalist Clem Castro shares details about the O&L-curated Moonlane Festival during the band’s Roadshow guesting on June 29.

“We made a re-recording of our 2003 album in time for its 15th anniversary. Apart from the original cuts, it has bonus tracks as well. And we are launching it on August 4 at the Moonlane Festival. That’s our grand launch, and it’s also going to be a mini-festival, an artist-curated festival where we invited 14 other bands to perform,” Castro shared in an interview with Wish 107.5 on June 29.

The said record contains their singles “Just Like A Splendid Love Song,” “She’s Leaving Home,” and the track they are currently promoting, “Kailangan Kita.”

Apart from the performances and the album launch, Moonlane Festival will also feature a special photo exhibit. The showcase will put the spotlight on the artworks used in their debut LP re-release.

Hinting on what’s next after the much-awaited music fest, Castro revealed that the band is “excited to do new stuff.”

“We can’t still believe that we’re back. Our age and hairstyles may have changed but the music is still there,” he said.

Orange and Lemons is Clem Castro (lead vocals/guitars), JM Del Mundo (bass, backing vocals), and Ace Del Mundo (drums, backing vocals).
