Rising P-pop Idols Prep Up for PPOPCON Manila 2023

P-pop fans and supporters are all prepped up for the upcoming Pinoy Pop Convention (PPOPCON) Manila 2023, and so are their P-pop idols.

The PPOPCON Manila 2023, “the ultimate fan gathering and celebration of Filipino pop culture and music,” will take place at the Quantum Skyview on July 14 and July 15, 2023 for the convention and at The Big Dome on July 16 for the live onstage performances.

With Wish 107.5 as one of the official media partners, the three-day event will be graced by established and promising P-pop artists and will feature fan engagement activities and booth exhibitions. It aims to connect supporters and P-pop artists and build a solid global P-pop community.

P-pop acts SB19, BGYO, BINI, MNL48, 1st.One, ALAMAT, Josh Cullen, FELIP, Sheki, KAIA, G22, Press Hit Play, VXON, PPOPGEN, DIONE, CALISTA, Yes My Love, and HORI7ON will showcase their music at the Araneta Coliseum as part of the culminating concert

A few days prior to the concert day, we sat down with select P-pop idols at the New Frontier Theater and asked about their preparations, dream collaborations, ultimate wish for P-pop, and more.

Share with us your PPOPCON preparations.

Joker: Ang pinakamasaya na experience namin is ‘yung attitude po namin toward sa pressure na… bawat araw papalapit nang papalapit ‘yung PPOPCON. And nakikita ko po sila and kaming grupo na kumakapit para maka makapag-perform ng magagandang performances para sa PPOPCON.

What’s your ultimate wish for P-pop?

Ace: Global recognition for P-pop. Kasi it’s a way of racing our flag. Pero in addition, I wish na lahat po ng part ng P-pop ay magawa po nila ‘tong bagay na gusto nila,and at the same time, make a living for themselves. Karamihan ng kakilala po namin na P-pop groups din, they’re really fighting for this dream, no matter how hard this is.

What’s your message to your fans and supporters?

My message for my fans and supporters is I just really want to say thank you. Because if hindi po dahil sa support po nila na ibinibigay nila sakin, even before when I was still a content creator, hindi pa ako artist, hindi pa ako singer, nandiyan sila for me. So, now it’s growing and it’s getting bigger, and I hope that in every achievement that I get, nandyan pa rin sila for me.

What’s your ultimate wish for P-pop?

My hope sa P-pop is to be maging way siya na ma-realize ng mga tao, especially the Filipinos, na ‘yung tunog ng Pilipino — tunog ng Pinoy — ay kaya niyang mag-evolve into different kinds.

Share with us your PPOPCON preparations.

Angela: Yung involvement po namin sa PPOPCON, mas makikita po dito. Kasi simula sa music namin, ‘yung arrangements, sa outfits, ‘yung concept itself, talagang nagtulungan po kami. Parang ito po ‘yung nagpa-strengthen ng pagiging group namin. Kasi very vocal po kami sa mga opinions namin. So, kapag may idea ‘yung isa, dinadagdagan nung isa pa.

What’s your ultimate wish for P-pop?

Angela: To rise, to be known, and to dominate. And sana magsimula po ‘yan sa Pilipinas. Mag open yung doors nila and ‘yung eyes nila na meron tayong P-pop — [na] talagang nag-wo-work hard na maipakita ‘yung story natin through our music.

Sophia: And marami pong P-pop groups talaga na maraming magagandang songs, depende sa mood niyo. Sana ma-discover ng mga Pilipino.

Share with us your PPOPCON preparations.

AJ: We’ve been preparing a lot and actually sini-set talaga namin ‘yung mind and bodies namin na until PPOPCON we will have our focus there. Pini-prepare talaga namin when it comes to the creatives, the training, the conditioning, the discipline.

Jaz: We wanted everyone to experience the G22 experience.

What’s your ultimate wish for P-pop?

AJ: My wish for P-pop is matanggap na siya ng bawat Pilipino dito sa Philippines. And also syempre pag natanggap na siya natin, it will be a step para mas maging international ‘yung Philippine music.

What’s your ultimate wish for P-pop?

DK: Wish for P-pop?ana magtuloy-tuloy po na ever year magkaroon ng PPOPCON.

Clara: And also po to grow more. We wish talaga na we can inspire people to be a P-pop idol, tapos they would inspire other people as well. ‘Yung wish po namin is matutulungan po rin namin ‘yung P-pop industry para umangat po talaga tayo sabay-sabay.

What are you excited about?

Dain: PPCON itself, saka ‘yung mga gathering ng fans and artists. Gusto ko makita ‘yung mga booth. Nagiging fan girl din po kami.

Olive: Pero nae-excite po kami na makita kung ano ‘yung pinaghirapan namin.

What’s your ultimate wish for P-pop?

Anne: Ang wish namin for OPM is mas mag-grow and mas makilala pa not just dito sa Philippines but also internationally. We want to be very distinct.

What’s your dream collaboration?

Chrls: ‘Yung dream collaboration syempre [with] SB19. Kasi parang kung makakapag-collab kami with SB19, it would be like a reunion. Kasi dati, ‘yung mga times na nagte-training pa kami together, ‘yung parang napapagusapan na namin siya before. So, it is a really nice collaboration kung mangyayari siya… kasi dati ito kayo and then now we’re in the same community and we’re doing this for OPM.

What’s your message to your fans and supporters?

Sev: First of all, we would like to thank our fans, the Pearls, for their continuous support. And we’re very happy and excited na makikita na ulit namin sila this PPOPCON.

Share with us your PPOPCON preparations.

KHEENE: For this PPOPCON 2023, mas focused po kami, mas ni-level up po namin ‘yung performance namin. As in naging mas hands-on kami pati sa mga LED, pati na rin sa mga blockings namin. Because we want our every performance to be better po.

What are you excited about?

KHEENE: Bukod sa meeting the fans po, sobrang excited ako kasi ito po ‘yung pinaka first time namin na puro P-pop po talaga ‘yung guests. We feel like we belong here.

JOSH: Magaan po sa feeling na lahat po ng invited na magpe-perform, meron pong one goal — which is to promote OPM.

What’s your ultimate wish for P-pop?

GAB: Gusto po namin na ‘yung P-pop is ma-recognize globally, worldwide. Kasi ‘yung Filipino talent po kasi kayang-kaya niyang makisabay sa mga talents all over the world. So, ‘yun po ‘yung pinaka-dream namin. And we will strive po and continue to work hard para ma-achieve po ‘yun.
