Rubie Corvera: Flowers for Mom

Rubie Jayne Corvera, 20, could not believe it when she learned that her wish will be granted.

“Nagulat po ako nung una tapos hindi po ako makapaniwala. Chinat ko yung mga friend ko, sabi nila, ‘Uy totoo ‘yan, marami na kaming kakilala na na-grant yung wish’,” she recounted.

(I was really shocked and I couldn’t believe it at first. I chatted my friends and they said, ‘Hey, that’s true, we know many whose wishes were already granted.)

Her wish was one of the most moving we have received when we brought our Wishing Wall to the Manila campus of Technological University of the Philippines — to give her mother a bouquet of roses.

Rubie shared that her mother, Florencia, 57, is the selfless breadwinner to their family of five. Her father passed away seven years ago.

“I wished for a bouquet of flowers because I wanted her to feel she’s loved kahit wala na si papa ( I wished for a bouquet of flowers because I wanted her to feel she’s even if my father is already gone). I wanted her to know that she’s the most loving mother and the most precious gift anyone could ever have from God…. I just wanted to make her happy and receive the best things in life because she deserves it,” she said.

“I seldom tell her words like “I love you”, “Thank you”, and “Sorry,” so I am thinking that by giving her flowers, I’ll be able to say these things and make her feel very special even if sometimes it does not show in my actions.”

With the sweet moment she shared with her mother, who looked delighted and overjoyed, she expressed her sincerest gratitude to us.

“Thank you very much for granting the wishes of people. Sana po patuloy kayong makapag-inspire ng mga tao at patuloy niyo pong mabigyan ng chance yung iba na kahit sa simpleng paraan po makamit nila yung wishes nila (I hope you’ll continue inspiring people and giving them chance to have their wishes fulfilled),” she enthused.
