Spotify’s Latest Initiative Brings Together Pinoy Hip-Hop Artists and Fans Where ‘KALYE X’ Marks the Spot

Giant music streaming platform Spotify recently made waves in the local music scene as it launched “KALYE X,” its latest initiative that champions “Pinoy hip-hop and its limitless potential.”

“Kalye” means street or small road. It’s a term close to the hearts of Filipinos, especially those who grew up along the busy streets of metropolitan areas. These spaces didn’t only witness many great memories and childhood adventures unfold. They also served as a place where hip-hop began to thrive, with people enthusiastically blasting and singing along to local rap pieces.

In its commitment to showcase the depth and diversity of local hip-hop culture, Spotify launched its newest initiative, gathering established artists, communities, and their fans.

With this platform, hip-hop artists get another stellar avenue where they can express themselves and showcase their craft.

Spotify collaborates with Wish 107.5

Spotify Philippines has teamed up with Wish 107.5 to bring this vision to life. They tapped hip-hop acts from across the country, including Cookie$, Gloc-9, Hero, Midnasty, Morobeats, and Ramdiss.

Gloc-9, Hero, and Ramdiss will represent Manila, while Midnasty and Cookie$ will showcase the best of Bisaya beats. On the other hand, Morobeats will reimagine the sound of Davao City’s hip-hop scene.

The Pambansang Wish Bus will bring these hip-hop acts closer to people as it travels to Cebu, Davao, and Manila through the “Kalye X” concert series. This event will be free and exclusive to all Spotify users, kicking off at the Plaza Independencia in Cebu City on August 26, 2023. Apart from their Wish Bus performances, Midnasty and Cookie$ will also deliver bars live on stage.

Their newest collaborative track, “Wa Na Wa,” will also be available on Spotify on the same day.
