The 9th Wish Music Awards Performers: Rico Blanco, Josh Cullen, Flow G, and More

Every January, Wish 107.5 holds one of the biggest musical revelries in the country — the 9th Wish Music Awards. This January 14, 2024, the WMA stage is ready to welcome another exciting line-up of performers.

Happening at the Araneta Coliseum, the 9th installment of the awards show will feature Rico Blanco, Josh Cullen, Flow G, Clara Benin, Lola Amour, Dilaw, Ben&Ben, and Cup of Joe. The WMAs will be hosted by Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista, multi-hyphenate artist Karylle, and social media stars Inka Magnaye and Justine Luzares.

Apart from the performances, the event will witness the announcement of WMA winners. Votes from the public will comprise 30 percent of the total score of nominees — with the remaining 70% decided by a panel of judges.

The awarding ceremony recognizes local acts who dished out the best songs and Wish Bus performances in the past year. It also serves as an important avenue for bringing these artists and OPM fans closer.

Top-notch numbers await OPM fans

Headlining the 9th Wish Music Awards is esteemed musician Rico Blanco. While he is set to make his WMA debut this year, he already graced the event’s 5th edition back in 2020. He bagged the Wish Rock/Alternative Song of the Year award with IV of Spades for “Nagbabalik.”

His WMA stint also comes ahead of his much-awaited reunion with Rivermaya, which is slated in February.

Apart from Blanco, more rock acts will take over the WMA stage. Lola Amour — who dominated the charts with “Raining in Manila” — will also perform at the Wish Music Awards for the first time. Their performance of the said hit is vying under the Wishclusive Rock/Alternative category, while the band is also one of the Group of the Year nominees.

Cup of Joe and Dilaw, two notable bands from Baguio, are also first-time WMA performers. Their respective smashes — “Tingin” and “Uhaw (Tayong Lahat)” — have also earned WMA nods.

Returning to the WMA stage are versatile OPM artists and previous WMA awardees Ben&Ben and Clara Benin.

Benin, the talented songsmith behind “small town,” is a Wish Artist of the Year contender. Meanwhile Ben&Ben’s “Could Be Something” is competing in the Wish Contemporary R&B Song of the Year category. The band comes from a milestone year as they once again emerged as the most streamed Filipino artist on Spotify in 2023.

Speaking of Spotify, the event’s official music partner will feature the upcoming performance of another Wish Artist of the Year nominee: Flow G. The rapper is also vying in two more categories, which are Wish Hip-hop Song of the Year (“Rapstar”) and Wishclusive Hip-hop Performance of the Year (“Bahay Yugyugan,” with Gloc-9).

Completing the roster of performers is SB19’s Josh Cullen. Cullen has earned nominations as a solo act, including Wish Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and as part of the P-pop giant. Last year, SB19 made waves in the local scene and beyond with the release of their “PAGTATAG” EP and the viral “GENTO.”

The 9th WMA is presented by Spotify, “For all the best of Pinoy Hip-Hop, check out the Kalye Hip-Hop playlist only on Spotify! Let music find you on Spotify. Just press play and listen for free now!” Rexona, “Unstoppable protection for the unstoppable you,” Close Up “has antibacterial zinc to give you all day AMA-ZINC fresh breath” and Medical Depot “Your one-stop medical shop,” and co-presented by Puregold, “Always Panalo,” together with major sponsor Executive Optical “Love your eyes,” and Genesis Organic Spirulina “Feel your best with our trusted superfood Genesis Organic Spirulina,” and minor sponsors SKECHERS, “The Comfort Technology Company,” Astron, “Ang Murang Appliances na Maaasahan Mo!,” and C Square Telecom – Cartier Telecom, “Your Latest Gadget on Hand,” and partner GlamBot Philippines.
