The Moffatts Stage Nostalgic Big Dome Concert
Sixteen years ago, The Moffatts made headlines when they visited the country and brought their biggest hits. Fast forward to 2017, the Canadian boyband sensation returned and was warmly welcomed by the same music-loving bunch who grew up along with their songs.
Though now exposed to a broader spectrum of songs of all sorts, the band’s fans did not fail to show much eagerness to hear the soundtracks of their good old days. Proof? The Moffatts’ sold-out farewell concert at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum last Saturday, February 18.
The Moffatts, composed of brothers Bob, Clint and Scott (Dave, who was originally included in the line-up, left the group to pursue a different career), took their Filipino fans to a trip down memory lane through the nostalgic Big Dome show. The concert, courtesy of Midas Promotions, featured a setlist of their greatest sing-along’s including “I’ll Be There For You,” “If Life is So Short,” “Bang Bang Boom,” “Girl of My Dreams” and “Miss You Like Crazy.”
The crowd was undoubtedly delighted — the resounding voices that know the band’s songs by heart, and the sea of waving hands and lights emitted by their gadgets were clear evidences.
But the concert was more than just that.
The show was actually pivotal in bridging the past and the future; in ending one beautiful chapter and introducing a fresh and equally exciting one. During the revelry, the fans who came in droves also witnessed the debut of materials from the boys’ new endeavors — Scott Moffatt as a solo act, and identical twins Bob and Clint as a country duo called Endless Summer.
“We never really got to say goodbye to our fans. We kind of just disappeared; it was just really abrupt. We felt like the show is going to be a really a cool way to give closure to this chapter, The Moffatts, and also start introducing people to our new music,” Scott enthused during the trio’s Roadshow guesting two days ahead of their concert.
During their stint on board the Wish 107.5 Bus, they also revealed more about their new journey as artists.
“Bob and I are working as the duo, Endless Summer. We started with country music and we kind of went into pop and rock, but we came back [to our roots because] we’ve always been country songwriters,” Clint shared.
Scott, on the other hand, said that he is set to complete an album.
“Actually now, I’m just settling down, trying to complete a record. I’ve also been producing stuff. I’ve produced for several years in Thailand, in the United States and in Canada; now, I’m really taking the time after completing few projects for other people to really do something for myself, to complete a record for myself and to get it out there.”
While Bob and Clint remained loyal to country, Scott’s sound is more inclined to pop and rock. He also said that despite other acts’ influences on him, he is creating pieces to be “as much as [himself] as possible.”
Before playing some of the band’s biggest anthems through last Saturday’s concert, The Moffatts staged a sort of a pre-show — for free — as they sang live on the Wish 107.5 Bus, attracting a huge impromptu crowd at the Eastwood Central Plaza.
“This has been a really interesting trip to be honest. This is an amazing radio station,” Scott remarked.
