The Sounds of Summer: 10 OPM Wishclusives for an Epic Summer Road Trip

No epic summer road trip is ever complete without excited (and boisterous) pals to travel with, gasp-inducing scenic routes, and most of all, a playlist of songs you can sing along to or vibe with.

In this end-of-the-month feature, we list 10 OPM Wishclusives for you to play and enjoy as you hit the wide, open roads. Buckle up and crank up the volume because these songs are guaranteed to usher in good vibes and help create new and wonderful memories.

Dilaw – “Uhaw (Tayong Lahat)”

On top of our list is a Wishlcusive treat that will quench the thirst for love: Dilaw’s “Uhaw (Tayong Lahat).” This offering from the Baguio-based indie-alt act describes the feeling of having an intense longing for someone.

Can’t get enough of Dilaw’s thirst-quenching track? Listen to their other offerings in their latest EP, “Sansinukob.”

Crazy as Pinoy – “Panaginip”

Thinking of happy thoughts ushers in feelings of joy, lightness, and comfort. And reminiscing old memories, especially those that were made within the four corners of the classroom, can bring about sweet nostalgia.

Sisa, Basilyo, and Crispin of the rap outfit Crazy as Pinoy will transport you to the good old times with their viral Wishclusive, “Panaginip.”

In their Wish Bus interview, the rap trio shared that they are set to release more relatable songs this year. “Ang start talaga namin for this year is ilabas talaga lahat ng songs namin, and saktong-sakto na nagkaroon kami ng guesting dito sa Wish. Ang talagang goal namin is marinig ng lahat yung nagawa naming kanta na hindi pa nailalabas,” Sisa remarked.

Ocho the Bullet, Josh Cullen, and Angela Hermoso – “Sofa”

In this performance, hip-hop artist Ocho the Bullet, SB19’s Josh Cullen, and KAIA’s Angela Hermoso have teamed up with “Sofa.” The song talks about yearning to spend time with a loved one. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the chill vibes that “Sofa” brings.

The Dawn – “Earth”

This new grunge-rock track from veteran rock band The Dawn is the perfect song to sing along to when you’re literally riding into the sunset. This existential song was done during the pandemic and was the last song that their bassist Mon Legaspi recorded before his passing.

“I think, it’s a sign of the times when, when we created ‘Earth,’ the song, because we’re really feeling, you know, uncertainty and doubt as to where the world is headed and how are we’re gonna come out of it, you know, as a race,” shared The Dawn frontman Jett Pangan in a Roadshow interview.

Moonstar88 – “Next Week”

If it were only up to us, we would typically want to postpone things and experiences that make us sad, such as deadlines, dieting, and most of all, heartaches. And in this live performance, OPM rock band Moonstar88 pleads to put off a pending breakup until next week, when, hopefully, they would be more emotionally prepared to deal with the heartbreak.

“Sometimes, you know, you feel like the inevitable is happening in a relationship that you’re going to part ways with someone, but you’re not necessarily ready. So, you’re imploring upon the other party na pwede bang next na lang kasi ‘di pa talaga ako ready ngayon,” shared Maysh Baay shared during their band’s Roadshow guesting.

SunKissed Lola – “Pasilyo”

This heartfelt and upbeat Wish Bus performance of SunKissed Lola’s “Pasilyo” is bound to make you think of that special someone that you want to spend the rest of your life — and your long drives — with. The song, which features the voices of Wishcovery alum Alvin Serito, The Voice alum Dan Ombao, and Laura Lacbain, talks about the excitement, nervousness, and absolute elation that one feels before saying “I do.”

According to Serito, “Pasilyo” is a wedding song that was inspired by a recurring dream.

PLAYERTWO – “THAT’S MY BABY”

Davao-based band PLAYERTWO delivers a pumped-up Wishclusive performance with “THAT’S MY BABY.” The hip-hop song has helped skyrocket PLAYERTWO to virality: The track now has over 10 million streams on Spotify.

With their bouncy, feel-good song, the rap quintet will surely keep you awake during very long drives.

FELIP – “ROCKSTA”

In the mood to get your adrenaline pumping? Get in the zone with FELIP and listen to his bold and unapologetic track, “ROCKSTA.” In one of our “Behind The Music” features, FELIP said that ROCKSTA is a mentality. “So go grab that mic and never let go of what you are passionate about and your talents,” the singer-songwriter added.

The singer-songwriter released “Babalik Sa’yo,” a feel-good, upbeat, tug-at-your-heartstrings track. As of writing, her Wishclusive rendition of the song, which was posted in the latter part of January 2023, has garnered over 2 million views.

Sponge Cola – “Hometown”

Because nothing beats the feeling of coming back home after a long journey, let Sponge Cola welcome you with their Wish Bus performance of “Hometown.”

According to the OPM pop-rock band, they experimented with their new songs, which they recorded individually. “Hometown” features a heavier sound and incorporates modern textures and sounds that they’ve learned during the pandemic.
