TJ Monterde’s New Song Tackles the Pain of Not Being Part of the Plan

To know that the person you’ve loved, cared for, and devoted years of your life to doesn’t feel the same way toward you — and hasn’t included you in his or her long-term plans — is nothing short of devastating.

This is the heart-shattering reality that singer-songwriter TJ Monterde delves into with his latest single aptly titled “Plano.”

Monterde is known for crafting songs that speak about love and commitment, which is evident in his most recent offerings, such as “Walong Bilyon,” which talks about finding that one true love, and “Sigurado,” which is about being absolutely certain about one’s feelings.

However, his latest song veers away from his usual positive, uplifting, and romantic themes. “Plano” is a guitar-driven, soft rock piece that depicts a heartbroken narrator who’s looking back on a life shared with someone who ultimately left for another.

Days before the release of “Plano,” TJ Monterde shared a tweet that caused his fans to wonder if Monterde and his wife, Asia’s Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan, were going through a rough patch.

di makapaniwala,
na sa pitong taong ikaw lang ang mundo,
wala pala ako —- sa plano.

In reality, the tweet that made people overthink was composed of some of the most heart-wrenching lines from Monterde’s latest track.

Di makapaniwala

Na sa pitong taong

Ikaw lang ang mundo

Wala pala ako

Sa plano

On March 11, Monterde further dispelled rumors in an Instagram post dedicated to his wife on her birthday. “Some people might have thought we’re over, in a blink; but with all that I can — I won’t ever let this ship sink,” he shared. In the same post, he referred to Tandingan as his “best decision.”

Following the release of “Plano,” TJ asked his followers for their take on his newest offering:

“Nakakalungkot at napakasakit ‘yung ilang taon mong pinagsiksikan ang sarili mo sa kaniya, [tapos] wala ka palang halaga sa kaniya,” one of TJ’s followers commented. “‘Yung seven years na lahat naman natupad niyo ang dreams niyo nang sabay at kinasal kayo, pero biglang mawawala din pala. At ngayon, iba na ang kasama niya sa mga plano niya,” shared another Facebook user.
