‘Tuloy Pa Rin...Ang Awit’: Neocolours Celebrate 30 Years of Music with New Song, Anniversary Concert
Three decades after, the gents of OPM band Neocolours still show no sign of stopping.
Made up of Ito Rapadas (vocals), Jimmy Antiporda (keyboards), Jack Rufo (lead guitars), Paku Herrera (bass) and Nino Regalado (drums), the pop-soft rock veterans are back with a brand-new song titled “Giliw.”
A melodic ballad that makes for a sweet confession of love, the entire four-minute piece is imbued with the band’s signature OPM sound: simple, sincere and unfailing in hitting that soft spot in their listeners’ heart.
However, the song, written by Antiporda, is not their only musical offering this April; the band is holding their 30th anniversary concert called “Tuloy Pa Rin...Ang Awit” on the 28th at the Music Museum.
During their debut Roadshow gig last April 10, the quintet held a pre-show of sorts as they sang their latest single aboard the Wish 107.5 Bus. Their setlist also included their acclaimed and well-loved hits, “Tuloy Pa Rin” and “Say You’ll Never Go.”
Carrying on
As much as they try to remain active in the local music scene, the band does not deny the fact that things have indeed changed.
“The equipment artists use for creating music are now kind of a bit different. We only used paper, pen and piano before congregating in the studio to put tracks together. Now, it’s faster to record songs,” Rapadas shared during their guesting.
The Neocolours frontman also admitted that “it’s really a struggle for middle-aged people like [them] to maintain [their] vocal cords.”
“Especially now that we have an upcoming show, I see to it that I take care of my voice properly, like avoiding drinking so much cold water. I also do regular vocal exercises. Even when I jog, I am vocalizing,” he added.
Despite these musical metamorphoses, Rapadas and company are still keen to going after their passion.
“Keep on creating music. Collaborate with others. Share your music because that’s the best way to improve your craft,” he said, sharing a piece of advice for aspiring artists.
After their Music Museum concert, Neocolours intend on doing a nationwide tour for the rest of 2018. They are also currently completing their newest album, due for release this year.
