Despite the inclement weather brought by Typhoon Kristine, UNIS’ recent visit to the Philippines was met with warm, overwhelming enthusiasm from Filipino EverAfters. EverAfter is the name of the promising K-pop group’s fandom.

UNIS graced the Philippines with two concerts as part of their tour supporting their comeback project, “CURIOUS.” The event, titled “UNIS In CURIOUSland,” was held on October 25 at the New Frontier Theater and on October 26 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

A portion of their Manila concert was donated to those who were affected by the typhoon.

This marked their second visit to the country in 2024. Earlier in May, they did a fan-signing tour for their debut EP, “WE UNIS” — featuring the song “SUPERWOMAN.”

The octet comprises Hyeonju, Nana, Gehlee, Kotoko, Yunha, Elisia, Yoona, and Seowon. Two of them are Filipinas (Gehlee and Elisia), and one is half-Filipina (Hyeonju). The group was formed through a survival show titled “Universal Ticket.”

With their latest comeback, UNIS once again captured the listeners, this time with the LSS-inducing lead track, “Curious.” The pop-rock-leaning hit saw the rookie group showcase their artistic prowess while delivering a message of self-empowerment and confidence.

In a Roadshow interview, the group shared their experience visiting the Philippines, including their debut Wish Bus stint, where fans braved the rain just to watch them perform live ahead of their concert. They also discussed the heritage of their Filipino members and talked about what they had learned from their budding career so far.

Can you share about your experience visiting the Philippines?

Elisia: Honestly, when we first arrived here, it was already raining, which is kind of sad. But even though it's raining, we're going to light up the mood. With our mood, we're going to make it seem like it's actually sunshine and rainbows outside.

For the Filipino members, what do you think is the best Filipino trait you’ve showcased to the world as a member of UNIS?

Elisia: I think that the Filipino trait that we got to carry until Korea is definitely our courage and bravery. Filipinos are known for their bravery and how confident we are in ourselves. And with that kind of confidence and energy, we got to show the world how real we can be in front of the audience.

Gehlee: I completely agree. Just like Elisia, I feel like Filipinos — well, from my experience, at least — we always sort of find a way to stand out and just show people who we really are. We’re proud of who we are. And I think it's just something so beautiful about being a Filipino. Like a lot of us are just so proud of our origins.

What did you learn from the survival reality show, Universe Ticket?

Gehlee: Before joining Universe Ticket, I knew nothing about performances. I mean, I had performed in front of crowds, but I've never been trained professionally.

Universe Ticket developed my discipline and it strengthened my determination. It helped me realize my purpose of being here. Going through such a harsh process and coming out with the success of UNIS and being able to debut in such a group — I feel like everything was worth it. And I have so many people to thank for that.
