Unsung Heroes on Spotlight: Wish 107.5 Introduces KDR Icon of Music and Philanthropy Award

Wish 107.5 is paying tribute to the unsung heroes of the music industry.

On the fifth installment of the Wish Music Awards — which is scheduled on January 19, 2020, at the Mall of Asia Arena — the radio station is introducing a new accolade called the KDR Icon of Music and Philanthropy.

This recognition aims to honor people who use music to positively impact the lives of others (i.e. a nurse who gives musical performances for terminally ill cancer patients, or a music teacher who spends time to teach music to inmates in his free time).

Filipino citizens, at least 18 years of age, who have been doing their music-related advocacy for at least a year are eligible to be nominated for the said award.

Wish 107.5 has opened its nomination period on December 1. Anyone can submit their nominations online through this form. The deadline for submission is on the 31st.

This introduction of a new award is part of Wish 107.5’s efforts to pay it forward and use music for a good cause. It takes its name after the main man behind the station’s endeavors and advocacies — Kuya Daniel Razon.

During every WMA alone, the station — under his helm — gives Php 100,000 to the chosen philanthropic groups of major award winners. This is on top of the Php 25,000 that is awarded to the winning acts. Since the maiden edition of the awards show in 2016, Wish 107.5 has already given over Php 7 million to charity.

On the upcoming WMA, the recipient of the KDR Icon of Music and Philanthropy award will also receive a cash prize to give further support to his or her charitable campaign.

Do you know someone who uses music for a good cause? Nominate him or her to become the first-ever recipient of the KDR Icon of Music and Philanthropy award! Check out the form here.

This blog post has completely changed my perspective on music. It's a must-read for any music lover.
