Up Close with Jayda and Jessa Zaragoza: Heartfelt Talks, Music, and Motherhood

On May 10, singing mother-and-daughter tandem Jessa Zaragoza and Jayda Avanzado touched hearts during an extra special Roadshow gig that’s meant to celebrate hardworking and loving mothers all over the world.

Fans of the veteran OPM songstress and her fast-rising teen star daughter flocked to the Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa to witness the pair’s special collaboration as well as hear their fun interview on board the iconic Wish Bus.

‘Supreme’ motherhood

Jessa and Jayda showcased their loving relationship during their Wishclusive interview with DJ Alice on the Roadshow. Their closeness can be attributed to their insisting to take the time to bond, regardless of how hectic their schedules become. The pair revealed that they love watching their favorite series on Netflix while munching on a snack or two.

Aside from their Netflix sessions, Jayda shared that she appreciates the quality time her mom gives her during their regular late night heart-to-heart conversations.

For Jessa, engaging in these frequent heartfelt talks is just one of the many fulfilling obligations that come with motherhood. “The most supreme feeling being a mother gives me is the opportunity to take care of Jayda and Dingdong. Motherhood is a supreme responsibility. It’s a supreme crown,” she exclaimed.

On top of this, the 40-year-old singer-actress also consistently inspires her daughter to pursue her love of music by learning the value of hard work.

Treading the same path

Jessa’s hard work and love for music were behind the numerous recognitions and career breakthroughs she experienced as an artist. Her smash carrier single “Bakit Pa” is still being sung by her fans years after it was first released in 1997.

And now, she gets to see her daughter carve a name for herself in the same industry that both she and her husband have successfully conquered.

“I’m happy because I can see her growth as an artist. We share the same passion for music. We do the same craft and speak the same language. We take notes from each other and help each other out. She even teaches me, especially when it comes to genres that are new to me,” she told DJ Alice.

Jayda is proving to be a promising musical star: The young artist writes and produces her own songs. Though most of her tracks center on love, she plans to make music with more relevant themes, such as self-love, mental health, and female empowerment.

Earlier this year, her Wishclusive performance of “Happy for You” premiered on Wish 107.5’s official YouTube channel. The pop track is lifted from her “In My Room” EP, a debut album of five all-original offerings. This album offers a glimpse of the early days of her songwriting journey -- which literally started inside her room.

During their Wishclusive stint, the Phenomenal Diva sang her heart-wrenching track "Ikakasal Ka Na," while her daughter pulled off a vibrant rendition of her original single, "Text." On the same day, the talented mother-and-daughter duo performed Joey Albert’s optimistic piece, “Points of View.”
