Wish 107.5 Celebrates Six Years of Music and Milestones with Moira Dela Torre, SB19, Munimuni, And More through ‘Notes of Hope’ Digital Concert

Six years have swiftly gone by from when an FM radio station in the Philippines braved to bless the airwaves, the road, and the digital space with nothing short of top-notch entertainment.

In celebration of Wish 107.5’s sixth anniversary, the radio station will hold a digital benefit concert titled “Notes of Hope.” Through the digital concert, Wish 107.5 alongside its presenters, will be giving away free tablets to aid indigent and deserving students in their blended learning needs this coming school year.

The event, which will be livestreamed on the FM radio station’s official YouTube channel on August 23, 2020, at 7 p.m. PHT, aims to commemorate the station’s humble beginnings, its incessant efforts to fulfill the small wishes of others, as well as its contributions to the local music circuit and beyond.

Virtual concert event

Due to the social gathering restrictions brought forth by the Covid-19 pandemic, the much-anticipated revelry will be streamed for free via YouTube Live, and will spotlight performances from a powerhouse roster of OPM stars including singing-songwriting sweethearts Moira Dela Torre and Jason Marvin, ‘D Total Performer Darren Espanto, pop crooner Sam Mangubat, OPM rock outfit The Juans, versatile singer Bugoy Drilon, acoustic heartthrob Daryl Ong, singer-songwriter Mark Carpio, Makata-pop troupe Munimuni, BMPI’s homegrown act The Wishfuls, and P-pop group SB19.

Though a bit different from the usual jam-packed Wish festivities staged at the country’s premier live venues, Darren Espano, the 5th Wish Music Awards Wishclusive Collaboration of the Year awardee (alongside Asia’s Phoenix Morissette), shared his excitement for the  unique anniversary concert experience that awaits Wishers and performers alike.

“This year’s celebration is definitely different since it’s going to be done virtually. I look forward to watching performances from other artists who are also in quarantine and singing along with them on my screen,” remarked Espanto.

In a recent interview, OPM rock quintet The Juans fondly recounted their “surreal” experience when they performed at the Big Dome for the very first time during the Wish Olympics last February 23. They also shared their excitement for the upcoming Wish 107.5 virtual celebration, and to be of help to those in need.

“What’s unique this year is the fact that we’re not allowed to do mass gatherings. But despite that, because Wish is innovative and creative, we have found a new means to not just celebrate, but to also use the opportunity to be a blessing to people who are in need. Not only did we refuse to succumb to the circumstances around us, but we’re able to turn this adversity to an opportunity to bless others — and we think, that’s truly inspiring,” the group expressed.

The sound, the lights, and the sense of togetherness while cheering for musical acts — all these usually come with being part of a crowd during a live event. Despite live shows being on pause for now, thanks to technology, Wish 107.5 proves that music is able to remain potent in its ability to channel hope and compassion to others — and that whatever happens, music will always survive and thrive.

Free tablets for students

Though technological inventions abound and continue to revolutionize people’s lives, not everyone has the capacity to keep up with the ever-changing technological landscape. The same rings true for the education sector. As the country rolls out a new learning framework due to the Covid-19 outbreak, “there are still millions of young Filipinos who are behind in terms of the latest information.”

This is why Wish 107.5’s latest project aims to help students gain better access to educational information. This endeavor is part of what the station has been championing since day one — the transformative harmony of music and charity.

"...at the center of all these is our heart that beats for charity. This is why this is something we strive to do with the help and mercy of the Lord. We hope to touch more lives, and make a difference to many more through what we do in Wish,” remarked BMPI’s CEO and President Kuya Daniel Razon, as he punctuated his 5th Wish Music Awards speech by highlighting the long-term advocacy of the station.

BMPI's CEO and President delivers his speech during the 5th Wish Music Awards at the Mall of Asia Arena last January 19, 2020.

In an interview, multi-hyphenate Sam Mangubat also weighs in on the importance of making use of music as an artform to be of help to people in need.

“As a performer, I realized how impactful it is to serve as an inspiration to my listeners. That’s why I hope that through the platform that I have, I would be able to pass along this inspiration to others who need it. In our own little ways, let us all be an inspiration to everyone.”

“I believe that Filipinos, even from their young age, are well-honed to be resilient. So, I hope that no matter how troubling the situations are for our students, nothing hinders their desire to learn,” Sam added.

Similarly, the lads of Munimuni acknowledge the importance of being a ray of light to others and call for Wishers to watch the livestream on the event day. With every 25,000 peak live stream views, Wish 107.5 will add an additional tablet to the hundreds that they and the event’s presenters have pledged to donate to students.

“Many of us are at a loss right now as to how we can help others during this time, and this is very understandable, considering that we are all facing our own personal battles during this crisis. We think that it is very encouraging that the Wish sixth anniversary show is an opportunity for Wishers to support students who are in need. So please do tune in to the livestream. We hope that in doing so, you yourself will end up encouraged, all while also contributing a positive impact to the lives of students,” the Makata-pop band enthused.

Talented singer-songwriter Moira Dela Torre also recognizes the station’s continued support for Filipino artistry while espousing works of charity.

Flict-G, Moira Dela Torre, and KZ Tandingan huddles for a group shot after receiving two Wish awards each, celebrating their success with fans and supporters who believed in them and their inspiring talent.

“Wish always makes a way to make it about others. And I'm so thrilled to be able to help our nation's future heroes do even better in their studies by giving them access to technology and information. It is such a great cause and I'm so thankful to Wish for giving us this platform, once again, to use music as a tool to spread hope to the next generation,” the OPM songstress said.

Wish 107.5 is still accepting nominations for “Notes of Hope” tablet recipients. Tune in to Wish FM 107.5 on the radio to find out how to nominate yourself or a deserving student.
