A Fusion of Film and Live Music: Wish 107.5 Marks 9th Year with ‘Solstice’ Concert

It’s been a long nine years since Wish 107.5 first hit the airwaves and the road. In commemoration of this milestone, the FM radio station will hold an anniversary show dubbed “Wish Date: Solstice.”

Serving as one of its most unique anniversary celebrations yet, “Solstice” will take place on August 7, 2023, Monday, at 7 p.m. PHT at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The event will feature a short film combined with live musical performances headlined by OPM icon Ogie Alcasid and sought-after singer-songwriter Adie.

A night of music and emotions

Wish Date is a concert series that KDR Music House has been producing. And “Solstice,” its eighth installment, coincides with Wish 107.5’s ninth anniversary. The series is based on Wish 107.5’s, radio segment of the same name where Doctor Clark reads letters from Wishers and plays songs in between.

Alcasid and Adie, together with Jason Fernandez, Aegis, and KDR Music House artist Peniel, will lend their musical prowess to soundtrack the short film that will be shown at the event.

“Solstice,” the short film, will delve into the depths of love and the choices that people have to make for the sake of their loved ones. It will star talented actors Enzo Pineda, Ayra Mariano, and Junjun Quintana.

The story will follow Annabel (to be played by Mariano) who gets torn between fighting for the love of her life and fulfilling the obligation that an arranged marriage demands. As she makes a tough decision, a new season in her life dawns — one that is thick with heartwarming moments and life-changing hurdles.

Peniel, who has been performing in the previous editions of the concert series, shared how she feels to be part of such an endeavor.

“It continues to feel very cool… I got to witness how Wish Date concerts evolved through time. So, I’m always curious as to what they’d bring to every new one, especially with the artists and songs featured,” she stated in an interview.

Celebrating nine years

Wish 107.5 was launched in August 2014 and has since initiated various projects. Apart from its regular radio programming, it puts the best of Filipino musicality to the fore with initiatives like the Wish 107.5 Bus, the Wish Music Awards (WMAs), and Uncharted.

In March this year, the Wish YouTube channel, where Wish Bus performances are uploaded, has already amassed over 14 million subscribers. On Facebook, the station has meanwhile hit the two-million followers mark.

Earlier in January, Wish 107.5 held the eighth edition of the WMAs, which saw OPM acts like SB19, Moira, and Adie bringing home trophies. Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, who was named KDR Icon of Musical Excellence, acknowledged the new generation of Filipino music-makers, encouraging them to “keep creating music.”

Wish also unveiled a new project in May called Uncharted. Exploring new OPM territories, the weekly radio segment provides a platform for rising and independent artists to share their original music.

In his remarks during the 8th WMAs, Wish 107.5 innovator Kuya Daniel Razon emphasized the station’s commitment to helping local acts. “We at Wish look forward to more years of working silently, steadfastly, and passionately to bring OPM artists, both up-and-coming and well-known, to the global arena,” he enthused.

Beyond sharing music, Wish also champions charity with the charitable activities it incorporates into its projects. For instance, during WMAs, the station gives Php100,000 to the chosen beneficiaries of the winning acts.

Prepare for a night of music and emotions — “Wish Date: Solstice” is happening on August 7, Monday, at 7 p.m. at the MOA Arena. The short film will star Enzo Pineda, Ayra Mariano, and Junjun Quintana, with musical performances from Ogie Alcasid, Adie, Jason Fernandez, Peniel, and Aegis.
