Wish 107.5 Stages Ultimate 'OPM Spotlight' with Ogie Alcasid

Every Friday, Wish 107.5 dedicates a special one-hour airtime for the artists of the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) to showcase their musicality. The segment called OPM Spotlight is aired every 7 to 8 in the evening, taking the last hour of the program, Roadshow.

However, last August 2 was an exception. It was a Tuesday. Timestamp: 4 p.m.

Gracing the Roadshow episode was no other than the president of the premiere organization promoting Filipino music, the legendary hitmaker Ogie Alcasid.

The music icon treated listeners and his impromptu spectators along Commonwealth Avenue to an OPM overload with his live performances of “Ikaw Lamang” and “Ikaw Ang Buhay Ko,” the lead single of his latest album of the same name.

During the show, unofficially dubbed as the “Ultimate OPM Spotlight” episode, he also took requests from the eager crowd, singing portions of the Filipino classics, “Ikaw Sana” and “Kailangan Kita.”

Ogie’s “Ikaw ang Buhay Ko,” the album, is his latest musical offering since his 2012’s gold record “The Songwriter & The Hitmakers.” He remarked that it is his wedding anniversary gift to his wife, fellow OPM legend, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.

“We are celebrating five years as a married couple, and this is my gift to her. I wrote five songs here for my wife. But I also share this album with other lovers out there — those who are already married, soon-to-be wedded, and couples who are also celebrating their anniversaries,” he shared.

CD with a message

On the album, he also wrote a sweet message to his wife:

“This album is dedicated to my beautiful wife. After five years of being married to her, I celebrate the joys and the challenges of marriage with a human being who is kind, giving, loving, funny, and most of all God-fearing. It is indeed a blessing to be married to someone who loves the Lord as much as I do as He has prepared us for the hills and valleys of our married life.”

“Ikaw ang Buhay Ko,” which Ogie considers as one of his favorites,  is released by Universal Records.

This blog post has completely changed my perspective on music. It's a must-read for any music lover.
