Wish 107.5 Supports Original Pilipino Praise Music

Wish 107.5 shows continued commitment to help enliven OPM, particularly gospel music, as A Song of Praise (ASOP) Music Festival is slated to cap off its fifth season this November 7 at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

The competition’s grand finals night, wherein Wish is a media partner, will witness another set of 12 entries composed by amateur and professional songwriters vie for the Song of the Year award. Online voting is also open at www.asoptv.com for the Peoples’ Choice award.

On the culminating event, a total of more than a million in cash prizes is at stake.

As part of the partnership, the interpreters and composers of ASOP Year 5 will be boarding the Wish 107.5 Bus to promote their entries. The praise songs, which went through a series of weekly and monthly elimination rounds, will also receive substantial airplay over the station.

ASOP, produced by the Breakthrough and Milestones Productions International (BMPI), is one-of-a-kind songwriting competition that rekindles the love for homegrown music through creating new compositions, particularly praise and gospel songs.

Esteemed composer Ryan Cayabyab first lauded the significant influence of gospel music supporters on mainstream media during the culmination night of ASOP Year 4, “It is like a small troop of army which when it penetrates the mainstream, it will grow into a large army.”

Award-winning songwriter Jungee Marcelo, who served as one of ASOP Year 4 judges, also remarked he “can imagine this [genre] going mainstream.”

Asked about what makes the competition unique, resident judge and hitmaker Mon Del Rosario said during a press conference, “Here in ASOP, it’s not only a songwriting contest, it’s also a songwriting school-on-air.”

“I guide the composers, and the process even before the recording of the songs that made it to the grand finals is very tedious.”

Music luminaries who previously judged ASOP grand finalists include Sen. Tito Sotto, Jim Paredes,  and Joey De Leon.

Back in October last year, Wish began airing songs that previously competed in ASOP through a one-hour Sunday special which airs from 5 to 6 AM.

The launching of the five-year-old television program on the station comes after the management of Wish 107.5 forged a deal with BMPI to promote Original Pilipino Praise Music (OPPM).
