On October 13, 2024, the Mall of Asia Arena came alive with the 15th edition of Wish Date titled “Solace.”

With music and film combined to tell a relatable story, the event created an unforgettable atmosphere that moved and inspired the crowd. The visuals and narrative interludes enhanced the performances, transforming the concert into a shared experience of empathy and reflection.

The musical lineup

The night kicked off with Wish Chorale’s haunting medley of Queen’s greatest hits.

Dionela’s performances of “Oksihina,” “Musika,” and “153,” helped set the emotional tone for the evening.

JOSH CULLEN brought tracks from his “Lost & Found” record — “1999” and “SEE ME” — as if his debut Wish Date stint were an extension of his solo album concert held earlier on September 28. He dedicated “1999,” before his final song for the night, to his childhood and the show’s audience, succinctly saying, “We can all relate to this.”

Rock band Dilaw delivered their signature eccentric style, offering live performances of “Janice,” “Orasa,” and “Uhaw.” The Wish award-winning act added a bit of humor during their set, much to the delight of the already ecstatic crowd.

Belter Arabelle Dela Cruz made her Wish Date debut, delivering powerful renditions of “Run To You” and “Even If.”

The emotions from last Sunday’s event soared even higher when Angeline Quinto sang her heart out, singing “Til I Met You,” “Sana Maulit Muli,” “Kahit Isang Saglit,” “At Ang Hirap,” and “What Matters Most.”

The Itchyworms added a nostalgic touch and performed some of their best hits: “Akin Ka Na Lang,” “Di Na Muli,” “Love Team,” and “Awit Ng Barkada.”

Letters from June rounded off the lineup of performers. The KDR Music House act performed “Head Over Heels,” “Make It With You,” “Universe,” and “Nasan Ka Na?,” the film-concert’s official theme song.

"Collectively, the performances captured the essence of youthful love, bringing both smiles and tears in equal measure."

A story of unconditional love

At the heart of “Solace” is a poignant narrative that explores the theme of unconditional love across generations.

The story of Troy (James Blanco) and Rebecca (Yuki Takahashi), who navigated life's challenges with much grace and resilience, intertwined beautifully with that of their daughter, Karen (Zonia Mejia), and her lover, Charlie (Shan Vesagas).

Rebecca’s battle with an autoimmune disease highlights that love often comes with its fair share of struggles. Young Karen, portrayed by Chastity Dizon, echoes her father’s journey, as he is bereaved of a wife; she, of a mother.

Claudia (Nikki Valdez), Rebecca’s sister and Karen's aunt, played a pivotal role as a steadfast caregiver. Her selflessness and devotion reminded the audience that love often manifests in quiet, sacrificial ways — reinforcing the overarching theme that love truly conquers all.
