A Night of Music and Moments: Wish 107.5 Celebrates 9th Anniversary with ‘Wish Date: Solstice’

Nine years ago, Wish 107.5 officially signed on and introduced a roving musical platform like no other to the world. Since then, the station has been driving innovations in the field of music and radio broadcasting.

In commemoration of the station’s big musical moments and milestones, Wish 107.5 treated its fans to a unique spectacle. On August 7, 2023, Monday, it held “Wish Date: Solstice,” an anniversary show that featured a short film along with live performances.

The one-of-a-kind celebration that took place at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City, was a first for the station.

Bringing the radio segment “Wish Date” to life, the crowd enjoyed an immersive aural experience as they witnessed an emotive array of scenes and songs from OPM hitmaker Ogie Alcasid, iconic Pinoy band Aegis, singing-songwriting heartthrob Adie, rock act Jason Fernandez, and budding songsmith Peniel.

A great date night with Wishers

Despite the Monday evening downpour, Wishers gathered at the MOA Arena to celebrate the universality of music and love — and how they similarly captivate people’s hearts.

The show opened with a climactic scene from the film featuring lead stars Ayra Mariano, who played the role of Annabel, a passionate medical resident, and Enzo Pineda, who played Rolly, a member of the Marines. The story revolved around the two and Patrick, portrayed by Junjun Quintana, a lawyer and son of a government official who was set to be wedded to Annabel in an arranged marriage setup.

Narrated by Wish 107.5’s Doctor Clark, the “Solstice” film chronicled the seasons that Annabel went through in her life as she embraced conflicts and change. In between the heart-melting scenes were stirring performances from the guest acts.

Opening the show was the Wish Chorale with their performance of Sharon Cuneta’s “Ikaw.” They also dished out an enchanting rendition of the timeless piece “Moonriver” later in the night.

For this year’s show, talented acts Peniel and Jason Fernandez made a Wish anniversary comeback and lent their musical prowess to serenade the audience. The Wishcovery Originals winner and KDR Music House artist performed her own sentimental take on “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “I Just Fall In Love Again,” “Somewhere Only We Know,” “All I Ask,” and the OPM tune “Ikaw Lang Ang Mamahalin.”

Meanwhile, Fernandez delivered his performances of Coldplay’s “Fix You,” Peter Cetera’s “Glory of Love,” Eraserheads’ “With A Smile,” and Rivermaya’s “You’ll Be Safe Here” and “Kisapmata.”

“It is definitely a great honor to be asked to take part in this great event… Wish always has a special place in my heart,” the former Rivermaya frontman who sang the “Ano’ng Wish Mo?” jingle shared in an interview.

Wish award-winning artist Adie also graced the event. The OPM crooner, together with his band, warmed hearts with refreshing arrangements of his originals, “Paraluman,” “Mahika,” “Sawa Na,” “Luha,” and “Tahanan.”

“[It’s] such an honor being part of this annual event of Wish being a fan of this platform [myself]. [To be able] to share some good music with such amazing singer-songwriters is definitely one for the books,” the O/C Records act enthused.

Some of the event’s most anticipated highlights were OPM rock troupe Aegis’ emotionally charged performances. The iconic band brought the house down as they performed some of their biggest hits, including “Basang-Basa Sa Ulan,” “Luha,” “Halik,” “Sinta,” and “Pagsubok.”

OPM hitmaker Ogie Alcasid served as the concert’s headliner.

The premier singer-songwriter and TV personality mesmerized the crowd with his heart-wrenching performances of classic love pieces like “Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka,” “Ikaw Sana,” “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala,” “Mahal Kita, Walang Iba,” and “Kailangan Kita.” In his adlibs, he shared anniversary greetings and comedic antics that gave the crowd a much-needed breather.

“Honored to be part of Solstice,” Alcasid expressed on social media as he shared his gratitude to the station for inviting him as one of the concert performers.“Thank you @wish1075 for having me! Happy anniversary!,” he added.

Time well spent

A night of wonderful music and heartwarming moments spent with a sea of OPM lovers, “Wish Date: Solstice” is a fitting celebration of the station’s unwavering commitment to promoting Filipino artistry.

“Amid uncertainties, we were certain that we needed to share music and charity to the world. We battled great challenges head-on, and with God’s help, we will continue to do so with great hope in our hearts,” Wish 107.5 originator Kuya Daniel Razon remarked in his 8th Wish Music Awards speech.

As it has done in the past nine years, the station will continue pursuing endeavors worth spending time on: paving the way for OPM and touching lives through music and compassion, even amid changing seasons.
