‘Wish Date: Unexpected’ Features Julie Ann San Jose, Cup of Joe, and More

With “Wish Date: Unexpected,” KDR Music House delivered another music-slash-film concept of a show that had the crowd singing and reeling from the captivating storyline. The event took place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Giving emotional depth to the film’s narrative, Julie Ann San Jose, Arthur Miguel, Cup of Joe, 6cyclemind, and Hakki brought their renditions of hits and original tracks.

‘Unexpected’ film

TJ Marquez and Kate Yalung

The Wish Date concert series has so far given us stories that challenge common notions of love and romance. The 12th installment, starring Kate Yalung, Teejay Marquez, Tim Tuppil, Jameson Blake, and Riza Faulkerson, is no different.

The film follows an orphaned, independent woman (played by Yalung) who seems to have no luck in romance. She meets a lawyer (Marquez) whose hidden truth comes to light later in the story. (If you missed the show and want to know what happens next, be sure to catch the digital stream on KDR Music House’s YouTube channel later this month).

In an interview, actor Teejay Marquez shared what he think about the show, “Talagang napakagaling ng creatives. At saka isipin niyo, ‘yung mga istorya, hindi lang sila basta-basta gumagawa ng concept. Talagang pinag-iisipan at sinusurpresa talaga ‘yung manonood.”

Live performances

Tutti Caringal

Playing classic OPM hits from the ‘90s and 2000s, rock band 6cyclemind performed the Eraserheads’ “Alapaap,” “Sandalan,” and Teeth’s “Prinsesa.” They also staged their rendition of the Two Minds Crack’s “Upside Down.”

Arthur Miguel and Hakki Patricio

Hakki Patricio

Singer-songwriter Arthur Miguel went all out with “Lihim,” Rey Valera’s “Walang Kapalit,” and Taylor Swift’s “Crazier.” He also had a memorable duet with up-and-coming singer Hakki, singing “Ang Wakas.” Hakki, a homegrown talent by KDR Music House, also belted out her renditions of Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.”

“It still feels new to me po kahit pang-fourth ko na po na Wish Date. Ang surreal pa rin po ng feeling and every time na mag-perform po ako, sobrang happy ko po. Pero this time naman po, one thing’s new naman po: lessened na yung kaba. And I really enjoyed my performance po of course my collaboration with kuya Arthur Miguel,” Hakki shared in an interview.

Edgar Gian Bernardino of Cup of Joe

Cup of Joe

Raphael Ridao of Cup of Joe

Wish award-winning act Cup of Joe performed their songs “Tingin,” “Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Pipiliin Ko,” “Patutunguhan,” and Gilbert O’Sullivan’s “Alone Again (Naturally).”

Talking about their stint at the event, the band said, “Thank you po KDR Music House and sa Wish. Thank you for continuously using your platform to promote artists, no matter how small or big they are in the industry.”

Julie Ann San Jose

The vocal prowess of Asia’s Limitless Star Julie Ann San Jose also punctuated the evening. She graced the stage with her own take on Jimmy Bondoc’s “Let Me Be The One,” Parokya Ni Edgar’s “Your Song,” Faith Hill’s “There You’ll Be,” and Mark Carpio’s “Hiling.”
